VM mentioned it on the "Good Movies" thread. It's the kind of thing I'd probably like, but I've also heard that the writer (and also possibly the director) encouraging their followers to bother reviewers who criticized it.

I may still choose to see it, but I will need some time to separate the art from the artist here.

I thought it had some good moments, but I'm not ready to accept the absolute pessimism of the premise. Is it going to change anybody's mind? Nope. Is it just pointing out obvious problems without offering any solutions? Yep. Is it going to further the resolve of the deniers by feeling condescended to? Maybe.

Overall, I liked it, but I found the big theme frustrating and, yes, obvious.

All the smaller, interpersonal bits work better - like the general charging people for snacks at the white house, and the fact that Jennifer Lawrence's character can't get over how petty that was.

I did also laugh at the Don Jr. act from Jonah Hill and his weird obsession with how hot his Presidential mother is.

It seems at least equally pessimistic to assume it won't change anyone's mind. A whole generation of people are coming of age in a time when one of the most widely viewed movies with an all-star cast is a parable about the futility of relying on self-serving politicians, corporations, and media showmanship to serve the best interests of the people, and portraying the climate crisis as an obvious and imminent threat to the future of humanity. That seems a lot more likely to have a positive impact in the long run than trying to persuade deniers.

I posted this link in another thread where the topic came up so I'll repost it here. I think it's a compelling defense of the film.
