Movies Star Trek XI

I'm too :hyper: to write anything profound or witty. But the on-again off-again eleventh Star Trek movie appears to be on-again again.

OMFG!

2008 is shaping up to be a real good year for me.

ETA: Matt Damon as James T. Kirk? :wtf:

:woohoo:

About damn time. So, the story will focus on the early days of Kirk and Spock? Sounds good to me, though I share your feeling about Matt Damon playing Kirk. :nojustno:

Oh, it won't be so bad. Matt can play Kirk, and Ben Affleck can play Spock. He's taller with dark hair, right?

Then we get Robin Williams to play McCoy.

"Good Kirk Hunting".

Sure, I just don't see him as Kirk. For one, Damon is older than Shattner was in TOS if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah my reaction is more of a "huh?" than an "ick". Given that there's no series right now, and presuming that there aren't going to be any regular ST actors in this film (outside of the requisite cameo) I think it is cool that they are going with a big name. I hope that will help it do well as a stand-alone flick.

Last I heard (before this), it was supposed to take place during the time after Enterprise but before James Kirk time, with completely new characters. I am happy that they appear to be going with original characters instead.

Just FYI, calling someone "sirrah" is generally considered to be an insult.

Cheers,

Ugh, I don't know...I just can't get excited about the movie. The reason is, I feel like Start Trek should be moving forward into the future. Instead it seems to be endlessly stuck in the 23rd and 24th century. How many times are we going to hear about the adventures of James Kirk? Will Star Trek XII and Star Trek XIII be all about Kirk and Spock's childhood and teenage misadventures?

Bleh, please can we just move on from where Star Trek left off in the 24th century? I'd like to at least see 25th century dammit.

As would I. Want to see new characters and a new cast while they tell new stories. One thing I find interesting is that it seems like Rick Berman doesn't have any involvement in the film.

Neither Berman, nor Ira Steven Behr, who was the tv executive (read as: jerk) who thought Star Trek was too optimistic (which didn't make for a good TV show), and brought some of the ideas to DS9 that helped to contribute to the heap of shit that was the Star Trek universe post-DS9 (In which I include Voyager, since it started and continued later than DS9, but not First Contact, since it came out during the run of DS9. Insurrection was enjoyably campy, but Nemesis is definitely fair game for the aforementioned description.

I'm a bit dubious about Matt Damon in Star Trek, but if they're getting rid of the two guys I see as responsible for the more recent garbage peddled under the name of Star Trek, they might just salvage the enterprise (pun definitely intended).
