How come nobody ever replies to this thread?

Surely people have their own tips and tricks they wish to share?

This thread is more of a directory to other discussions rather than a topic in and of itself

True, and what I meant is, don't other members have their own threads, or places outside the site, they wish to share?

Yes, and they do so throughout the Food and Drink forum, including in the specified threads of the OP.

Put a crescent of ice in hot ramen and stir.

Warning: There might still be a pocket of lava hot noodle water hidden in the bowl even after the ice melts, so just be prepared for that possibility.

You're welcome.

Answer the phone.

I just came across this link on my interwebs travel. Mind=blown.
http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/tip...and_mason_jar/

Yep, you can use a Mason jar on your blender instead of the regular pitcher thing.

BIZZAMP.

This is a TIP OR TRICK REQUEST, and not a tip or trick.

Does anyone have recommendations for a small spice grinder suitable for grinding up hard things like pods?

I have a pretty terrible mortar and pestle that is good enough for leaves and stuff, but it doesn't do much for anything actually hard to smash. I don't need anything heavy duty, because I usually only need maybe half a teaspoon tops.

I was thinking maybe I would get an "herb" grinder for that, but it's not like the "herbs" in question are even pods or anything, so I don't even know if that would work.

Like is there such a thing as a crystal meth grinder maybe? Maybe something like that. Maybe just a better mortar and pestle? (The one I have is just wood, and I don't know where it even came from. I've even entertained the idea that maybe it's just supposed to be ornamental.)

I bet the "herb" grinder would work, as long as you get one of the hardcore metal ones instead of the cheaper wood kind.

This is what I use to bust up pods, cardamom mostly, also good for the joke, "crush my minions, crush!"

Also we used a dedicated cheap assed coffee grinder (electric) for herbs.

No the mortar and pestle with the leather top so stuff doesn't go flying out.
Asians use me.

Ha ha, I just realized I totally posted in the wrong thread. I'm going to pretend it was on purpose.

After further consultation with some jazz musicians, I think I'm going to go with this grinder. It's titanium, about the right size, and only two pieces.

I don't know where to ask this question, so I'll ask it in this thread. Does vinegar go bad?

Nope.
Specialty types of vinegars can change % over time, but won't go bad.

Acids are hard to kill. The worst I've ever seen is wine vinegar getting dreggy, which is gross but not bad.

Don't make me go all cast iron hipster on you.

Cause I can. Sort of.

Thanks for bumping this thread, though. It's a good one.

PS: If you're making marinara or something like that, make at least twice what you're going to use and freeze the extra to buy yourself a cheat day later.
