LotR Mafia - Game Thread

It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest...fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And Nine...nine rings were gifted to the race of Men who, above all else, desire power. For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived...for another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a Master Ring to control all others...and into this Ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life. One Ring to rule them all...



An Age later, the One Ring has resurfaced, and it's lack is all that stands between the Dark Lord and complete domination of Middle Earth. It has fallen into the possession of a band of simple Hobbits who, in the company of their allies and protectors, have set out to carry it to Mount Doom, and destroy it in the very fires where it was forged. But the Nazgul, Ring Wraiths corrupted by Sauron, have been dispatched to destroy your Fellowship and retrieve the Ring for their master. As the Nazgul fall upon you, Gandalf the Grey quickly casts a spell of illusion that makes all nearby, Nazgul included, appear as identical Hobbits:



You know the drill...Nazgul are scum, and kill one of you each night. Hobbits are town, and lynch one player each day. Nazgul can communicate via PM during night phases only, the rest of you can only communicate about the game in this thread.

The following PM was sent to a number of you:

You are a simple hobbit, this game's version of a vanilla townie. You have no special powers, beyond the ability to carry the One Ring without immediately succumbing to its temptations. You win when all threats are eliminated and a hobbit possesses the Ring.

In addition, one of you has been notified that you are carrying the One Ring.

Days are theoretically timed, but I'm giving you such long timers that they may as well not be. Day 1 will be two full weeks, ending at whatever time I leave work on Monday the 24th. If at any time before that one player has a majority vote of the remaining players, night will fall early. You will need to elect a leader for your Fellowship, by majority vote in bold blue text (i.e. vote: Adam ) who will have two roles. If there is a tie at the end of a timed day, the Fellowship's leader will break that tie. Perhaps more importantly, the leader will search the body of each lynched player, and come into possession of any items the deceased may have been carrying, particularly interesting pieces of fingerwear.

Questions posed to me via PM will be answered via PM. Questions posed to me in thread will be answered in thread. If you quote my PMs, or pretend to, giant eagles will carry your character away. Votes must be in bold to count. Unvotes are helpful when changing votes, but not required. No non-players poasting here, please. That's what the Peanut Gallery thread is for. Do not play the game outside this thread. No editing your posts, unless you're me. Invisibility is recommended, but not required. Be aware that I post almost exclusively from work, so if I don't respond quickly outside of working hours on the US East Coast, keep your tiny Hobbit shirts on.

So, I'm guessing that if a Nazgul manages to get the ring (like by getting themselves elected leader of the Fellowship, let's say), then the game comes to an abrupt end? Or is there some sort of Instant Death round where we get one last chance to get it back?

Also, what happens if Gandalf gets it? I think it's safe to assume he's here, given the OP.

liv is a great scumhunter, but could be dangerous to have as leader if she turns out to be Nazgul. IMO there are a few safer options.

Thanks, but I don't see how there's any such thing. Since we don't have any idea who is what yet, there is no safer option. You could vote for someone who you think is an undangerous player and if they're on the wrong side they'll fuck us just as hard as the best playa evar should they get the ring.

The only way the fellowship leader's skills counts for anything is in the tie-breaker, which is why I want it.
