WOW! When I was a kid, my mom wouldn't buy booze for us kids, and wouldn't let us drink at the house. Hell! she'd hardly let pa drink in the house, and she never bought his booze, either.

I bet most Liberal parents don't buy their kids a lot of booze, either.

I don't know if "went to Harvard" actually proves that much. I saw a research once claiming that some kinds of bigotry actually do in fact just make people temporarily stupid when confronted with the people they have bigotry about.

There are some cases like Senator John Neely Kennedy, who has an elite education and significantly changed his accent and demeanor after he switched parties from Democrat to Republican.

It could be that Tom Cotton is just dumb and/or blinded by his bigotry, but it's hardly implausible that it's just an act because we know that it is for some similarly situated Republican pols.

Which isn't to say that either of them aren't bigots. But they probably do know the difference between China and Singapore.

But I would say it's safer to assume some level of intelligence if you know they're not a legacy/the child of a major donor, which I don't see any evidence of in Tom Cotton's case...

I believe he's racist, I believe he's not that smart, but I think he probably knows basic geography.

Maybe I have a skewed perception though (if I do this quiz I can get 180+ out of 197).

I think that a lot of people, if you told them Singapore was "China's second-largest port city, after Shanghai", would probably just say "oh, i never realized that!" and not really give it much thought.


Like, I know Singapore isn't China, but I also know Shanghai isn't China. Many, many, Americans have no idea which things are countries.

Shanghai is certainly more China than Singapore is.
