Maps are fun, so is food.
I stumbled upon this blog called Edible Geography which is about food and maps. I thought this might be an interesting read for those among us who are interested in food and history. That's all of us, right? RIGHT?
Edible Geography
I was entranced to the lovely descriptions and maps of the beer caves,...."a virtually intact medieval malting cave beneath a nightclub in the Lace Market district."
http://www.ediblegeography.com/beer-caves-redux/
I want to go to there.

Re: Maps are fun, so is food.
Is this the proper thrad to pimp the BIG Map Blog? There are many map blogs out there, but this is the only one dedicated to the principle that old maps should be seen as large as humanly possible. They have maps so big they literally won't load in my browser. I have to download them and look at them in photo editing software. So dreaaaaamy...

This is totally the thread for maps. The last one I found, which made, MADE ME, start this one was started in 2004, plus lots of non-current combatants in the thread.

Dear lmus, here is a map of Atlanta in 1892. Too big to post but there are many interesting features. Ponce de Leon is practically farmland. Grady Hospital is there, and so is the downtown area.
Ymir, you'll be interested to know Oakland Cemetery is there.

I think I can see the mausoleum with the gargoyles. (based on how the road splits around it)

This is now the cool maps thread. The graphic designer Harry Pearce did a piece for the UN that had to do with the amount of available treatment for drug treatments and rehab around the world. I wish I could find a bigger version of it.

More cool maps! This one is big so it's under spoilers.
This is the Tabula Peutingeriana, a roadmap of the Roman Empire. According to Wiki, it was made by a monk in the 13th century based off of "original scrolls".

That's a tough one for me to wrap my head 'round being a native Atlantan. Here we even call Pepsi "Coke".

Oh, I love that map. Now every time someone tries to tell me it's soda, not pop I can tell them to suck it because they are clearly in the minority. Not that I didn't tell them to suck it before, but now it's not just because I'm a belligerent Detroiter.

Re: Maps are fun, so is food.
Soft drink is what I usually use. That usually just gets shortened to 'drink'.
When I was a child, my mom would sometimes say, "co-cola."

Way over here you might hear "fizzy drink" or just "fizzy".

Mr curses said fizzy drink as well. Not likely you'd hear that in the US, though.
