Pilgrimage to Skara Brae
So....I booked my flight to Heathrow.
I'm in negotiations for the ferry to and transport around both the Orkneys and the Shetlands, with Skara Brae and Jarlshof as my prime destinations.
Also included in my intended itinerary are Pembroke, Mach Alley, Snowdonia, Man, Cumbria, Speyside and whatever I can see of the Great Glen, the Falkirk Wheel, Cosford RAF Museum, the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, and a flight on a dragon over London and Cambridge (and maybe some British Museum and Tate, if I can). I'm sure I'll ride some vintage trains, as well. Two months of direct contact with the British. I've already sent warning ahead. I'm hoping I won't need to seek asylum.
Spring, 2017. Late May for Kirkwall and Lerwick.

Re: Pilgrimage to Skara Brae
I have the Dragon flight set...This is the aircraft in which I'll be flying over London:
It's de Havilland DH-89A Dragon Rapide, straight out of the mid-1930s. Isn't it Deco, darling?

Re: Pilgrimage to Skara Brae
Hey...I'm baaaaaack!
I rode the Dragon, and then turned around a flew a Tiger Moth. The same day. It was awesome.
I also saw Skara Brae, and Maeshow Cairn, and the Standing Stones of Stennis, and the Ring of Brodgar, I even got an idea of the extent of the Ness of Brodgar, but was not allowed entrance, as it it a very active dig. I expect wonderous things to be unearthed and a return trip booked in ten years.
I don't know how many small gauge trains I rode in Wales and Mann, but it turned out to be a good way to see the country. I now know a shipload more about 'blank slates'.

Re: Pilgrimage to Skara Brae
Ooo...ooo...
And I got to meet a raft of virtual friends IRL.
Like JoeP and Miisa. At least they purported to be same, only IRL.
And I rode the Falkirk Wheel and walked through the midst of Jarlshof. I stood at the door of both Castelrigg and the Ring of Brodgar, and under the protection of Pentre Ifar.
I visited a recreated Iron Age village, a recreated Neolithic village, a recreated Roman miletower, and a recreated 19th century crofter's farm. I rode several recreated small gauge railway lines and flew in two resurrected aircraft.
It was all quite recreational.
