As someone who likes playing with fire, everything about that had me cringing, from the flip flops to the leaning over and throwing matches. Heavier than air gasses like to creep so I was presuming there was going to be some ground flash that lit the hose on fire melting flip flop foam the bottom of his feet.

In some ways I want to congratulate him, eyeballing a good mix without a carb is difficult most people use too much fuel.

I don’t see a propane tank there so I’m guessing natural gas. IIRC from my gas handling safety courses, nat gas has about four times the mix range than propane to ignite.

Yeah I had took BBQ Fuel to mean propane, but looking it up another story calls it gasoline, so I’m presuming BBQ starter fluid, which is often a white gas spirit, or pure alcohol.

A liquid would also explain the burning chunk. The tunnels probably made for some nice capillary action that then gave a ton of surface area for evaporation.

I see nothing that went wrong. A homeowner turned over and aerated a good chunk of topsoil. That would have been a lot of spadework.

This website was pretty interesting to me. A bunch of videos of smart old people - scientists, poets, artists, and so on - talking about their lives. Web of stories.

There's Freeman Dyson, Edward Teller, Richard Feynman's sister, Oliver Sacks, Donald Knuth, and many others including Nobel Prize winners.

Maybe this link belongs in a different thread?

That was awesome to watch, it must have been mind bending to actually do it.

1. that little building with the solar panels at 50 seconds :hyper:
2. I can't believe I didn't notice the flare at all until it went out :stunned:

:yup: The cameraman was also incredibly skillful: not only flying his own wing suit down the mountain, but also keeping the other guy steadily in frame the whole flight, while positioning himself to capture the gorgeous background scenery.

The little cabin is the Mittellegi hut, first built in 1924 as a refuge for climbers on the Mittellegi ridge of the Eiger. Props to the builders: no helicopters to get materials or construction workers up there in 1924! You can book a night there, if you fancy climbing up. :shiftier:
