How did this come out? Was he getting blackmailed or something?

Re: Petraeus goes under another woman's covers.
Not sure yet. I was watching the news while getting an oil change in the CursesMobile and missed the most pertinent details. I'm not sure the've even given any details as to why yet. According to a few Farkers it's due to the fact that infidelity is a reason to lose security clearance, so there's that.

Curiously he was to testify to Congress on Benghazi next week.

OK, here's a Slate article that says the affair was with a biographer who had recently written a book about him.

fwiw, I have had CNN on all day and they are consistently reporting this story without mention of the upcoming testimony before Congress.

Re: Petraeus goes under another woman's covers.
Not sure if sarcastic but here's an article that talks about what Jerome's going on about :
Benghazi conspiracy theory flies following Petraeus resignation | WashingtonExaminer.com .
Pretty much that the CIA refused to get military help for the diplomats and that they either had inside info or helped arm the attackers.
According to the article,
Quote:
Last week, the CIA issued a statement denying that the CIA refused to provide reinforcements to the consulate personnel under attack in Benghazi.

Curiously there is video taken by the attackers which shows the finding of our ambassador barley alive and taken to the hospital. I suspect they were trying for a kidnapping.

The CIA outpost was just blocks away from where the attack occurred on the Ambassador's compound. The SEALs that died came from the CIA outpost, fought into the compound, rescued a few staffers, then were chased and attacked back to the CIA outpost. The CIA outpost was attacked shorty after.
Ftr, the Ambassador's compound lost its elite military security just before the attack, they were sent home without replacement.

Far be it from me to agree with your administration on the Arab world, but maybe they thought it was a random uprising etc. because there were actual demonstrations at at least one other embassay. And as far as I know also in Benghazi. Plus I seem to recall gov't spokespeople saying at the time they were not sure if it was a planned attack or a spontaneous response to that video.

As far as I know that video was not taken by the attackers but by bystanders as other bystanders rushed the embassador to the hospital.
So what do you right wingers think of your saint Ronald Reagan pbuh who fucked up so badly in Lebanon that first the CIA headquarters was taken out with scores killed and then the US Marines headquarters with hundreds killed? (He also armed, trained and financed Bin Laden and supported him and his buddies take out secular Afghan society, but that is for another time).

Couldn't be, the White House was watching the events live. If they couldn't discern from live pictures that night they had the ground reports within 12 hours. Either they were lying about what happened when they for weeks kept on about the you-tube video being the cause, or they are too incompetent to run the nation.

Regardless, Reagan hadn't just assisted in the overthrow Lebanon's established government.
Do you think Libya is better off today? The Mad Arab spent much of the countries wealth on the people. The rebels now in charge, their first step was to set-up a central banking system. The bank was established before the real fighting started.

It makes no logical sense for bystanders to enter a compound under attack and search burning buildings.

You becha you're a right winger.
No, but it was the clearest example of blowback in recent history. Reagan was 'assisting' the government that the Israelis had just installed in Lebanon, by shelling Druze villages in Mount Lebanon from a battleship off the coast. He started something, they finished it and Reagan cut and ran.

Interesting that you seem to consider spreading wealth a good thing.
No I don't think Libya is better off, maybe the Berber population are, they have gained some basic freedoms, but generally, not so much.
But Obama sorta sat that one out. It was mostly France and the UK that took the initiative there. I'm pretty sure Romney or Bush would have gotten involved more.

Define right-winger.
ftr, these are my positions:
Against all wars outside of obvious defenses from attack.
Against the taxation of workers' wages.
Against the drug war.
Against the patriot act.
For the full inclusion of alien residents.
For profit taxes.
For a social safety net.

It was a generally free, generally wealthy society there, in stark contrast to regional neighbors.

Silly thinking. NATO nations don't do anything without all being fully involved.

Re: Petraeus goes under another woman's covers.
Petraeus had the secret evidence that Breitbart was going to give, and so he had to be silenced. Some time in the next 40 years he will die, followed within another 45 years by the coroner who investigates his death. The evidence will never come out.

The New York Times says evidence of the affair was found by the FBI. I can't read the article, though, because I've passed the measly monthly quota allotted to nonsubscribers. Anyone care to quote salient bits?
