True story. At Disney World in 2012 we took the family. My husband and I were off in a corner, not with the kids, when we see Stitch barrel by (this was out of sight of the general park) --and he looked PISSED. So of course, my husband and I were like 'Stitch, what's up? Hey buddy". and he flipped us off and kept walking. I never laughed so hard.

Similar to the Jack Sparrow issues I’m amused when Disney creates a character that’s part asshole and then unleashes them onto the rated G world of their parks.

Identifying with a giant corporate IP is rather interesting as there have been multiple sequels and shows that I have mixed feelings about, but it means that I can easily find merchandise especially of the less disney approved alien version, but it also means Live action Lilo & Stitch here we come!

If anyone’s wondering the correct ‘sequel’ to Lilo & Stitch is How to Train your Dragon.

I've seen a few videos of Gaston where he's had some wonderful interactions with guests. IIRC, we saw him at the park and was quite amusing without being anything more than PG rated.

Racist calls police on 9 year old little girl who has lived across the street from him for almost her entire life.

In the 911 call, Gordon Lawshe, a former co-chair and treasurer of the Caldwell Republican Party, can be heard flagging the 9-year-old Black girl’s presence to the dispatcher and incorrectly labels her as an adult woman.

“There’s a little Black woman, walking, spraying stuff on the sidewalks and trees on Elizabeth and Florence,” Mr Lawshe can be heard while making a call to the non-emergency line. “I don’t know what the h*** she’s doing, scares me though,” he says before adding the additional details that she was “really tiny” and had a “hood” on.

Luckily the cop wasn’t bloodthirsty, he apparently talked to the little girl and commended her effort to help the environment.

When leaving the Caldwell neighbourhood, the officer can be heard interacting with Mr Lawshe. After the officer explains to the former New Jersey Republican Party treasurer what the little girl had been doing with the spray bottle, Mr Lawshe quips, “What a weirdo,” before the policeman drives away.

Lawshe is a piece of shit.

“Since Mr. Lawshe has been accused of being a racist, he and his family have received threats to their person and property,” Mr Lawshe’s lawyer said, according to CNN. “Mr. Lawshe and his family have been defamed and will continue to be defamed until the innuendo and direct accusations and attacks against Mr. Lawshe and his family cease.”

I am not a lawyer, just a simple country microbiologist, but I’m pretty sure truth isn’t libelous nor defamation. Calling the police on a little girl for spraying the grass with water seems like pretty good evidence of racism.

Furthermore, much like when Oscar Wilde sued that guy for slander who said that he was gay, I doubt Lawshe wants an investigation into the underlying claim.

Also as a former Republican county chair, party treasurer, he could well still be considered a public figure. (Any real lawyer type care to chime in on that?)

After Trump dined with Kanye and the Proud Boy, there has been much handwringing, but not really about the racism.

Still, it speaks volumes that the few GOP leaders willing to criticize Trump at all only do so by framing him as a threat to the GOP's future while ignoring the larger threat he poses to the nation. Republican voters may drape themselves in the flag and other symbols of patriotism, but this rhetoric shows their leaders believe they will put party before people every time. For Republicans, the issue is never that Trump stands against American values like equality or democracy. It's that his authoritarian, white supremacist views offend some number of Americans who might otherwise be inclined to vote for their party. In the end, GOP leaders send the message that the problem with Trump's overt racism is not that it's wrong or damaging, but that it's inconvenient to white conservatives.

I don't want to link to the Alex Jones/Ye interview, but all the major news media focused on Ye talking about how he liked Hitler, but they missed telling us about the "best" part of the Alex Jones/Ye interview: Ye took a fishing net and a bottle of Yahoo! and made a "Net and Yahoo" (Netanyahu) puppet, then reiterated Jewish conspiracy theories in a high-pitched voice.

Alex Jones has this trick. He starts out by giving cues to the grifters that come on the show the tactic they should use to try to skirt their blythe racism to sell whatever it is they need to sell, or what they need to say to suck up to Alex that day. Ye is having none of that. He's a much bigger star than Alex, and he just doesn't care. Jones is completely unused to people completely disregarding him and was unprepared for the onslaught of antisemitism coming from Ye.

The archaeologists said the county should look into who was buried there. The county said they didn’t know if anyone visited the cemetery who knew who was buried there.

By law, the county had to run a classified ad to notify any potential descendants, the great grandson of one of the people buried there literally worked as a reporter at the newspaper where the classified ran, but of course didn’t read it, because who reads the classified ads every day?

On the campus of the University of Georgia, builders discovered a cemetery of enslaved people, and in 2017 the remains were reportedly loaded onto a moving truck and reburied “in secret,” according to a faculty review. In Texas in 2018, the graveyard of dozens of men held as convict laborers, a site whose significance was long known to community members, was found by construction workers, and the remains were exhumed. In each case, the developers have said they treated the burials with dignity.
