Re: Miscellany
Just had my first migrane aura, a "scintillating scotoma". As it wasn't accompanied by an actual migraine, it was actually kinda cool. It looked like colorful circuit diagrams crawling out in a ring around my vision, and didn't linger long enough to get really annoying.

Re: Miscellany
I had that one time a year or so ago.
That was also the only time I've had a migraine to my knowledge.

Re: Miscellany
Somebody has been monitoring my experience playing Skyrim, it seems ...
(I'm still trying to get a good-enough look at a dragon's skull to figure out if it's an archosaur or not. There are some ... inconsistencies ... in the skeletal anatomy. The patagium is definitely supported by more than a single elongate digit, however; that argues against dragons being stem pterosaurs.)

My sister only gets the migraine auras. She's never had the headache part.

I always hated that part worse than the headaches or the nausea. Parts of your vision just being replaced by painful light. I thought I was going blind the first time.

So I came on to earlier to whinge about how shit Dell are, and how their monitors are shit. Then I realized that I'd plugged it into the motherboard instead of the video card. I feel like such a failure.*
*the motherboard has an onboard GPU, but I bought a better one because gaming image processing and Photoshop. I have the PCI slot set in BIOS (or whatever it's called now) set as the primary display.

Re: Miscellany
I order stuff online from time to time as I live in what we like to call God's blind spot. And don't like interacting with people. One delivery I ordered just after Christmas went silent on my tracking app at the end of December and I was forced to call the shipping company (ugh) and then go to the "post office" (the local grocery shop, actually) to see if it was perhaps just lying around
.
Most of the stuff I order is cool and sophisticated, so it seems so cruel that it is just with THIS package that the salesperson had to say, "So what did you order so I know what to look for?", from right across the room by the shelves, in front of all the other customers.
"Erm, um, it's probably small and light and, um.... FINE! IT'S MENSTRUAL CUP SUPPLIES, DOES THAT HELP?!?"

Re: Miscellany
I ordered some DVD box sets from Amazon as a birthday present for my mum. I couldn't get all four series of the show she wanted in one set so I ordered the first two series from one vendor and the remaining two series from another. The series three and four were tracked and delivered within a couple of days. The series one and two were untracked but failed to arrive.
A few days after the 'expected by' date I contacted the seller to ask how long we needed to wait before deciding that the parcel was lost. They surprised me by immediately providing a full refund.
So I looked on Amazon again and have now ordered a box set with series one, two, and three, with tracking, and it's cheaper than the lost and refunded order for just the first two series. I would have ordered this first time around except that it was out of stock.
Assuming the new set arrives safely, I'll then have a duplicate series three set which I needn't have bought in the first place. I suppose I can put it on eBay to try to reclaim a little cash.
What I found strange was the immediate acceptance of the supplier that the parcel was lost and the immediate refund... I suspect something dodgy may be going down with that particular Amazon seller.

Re: Miscellany
Amazon is quickly gaining ebay -level seller dodginess. I won't buy anything that's not fulfilled by Amazon anymore because of it.

Re: Miscellany
I just remembered something the other day.
Across from the local shopping mall is an abyss where stores go to die. For the longest time, I'm talking a number of years, I was trying to remember the first store that was there. I could remember the look and color of the signage, and the layout and everything. But the name of the specialty department store continued to elude me. I tried googling for names of stores and such but nothing joggered my memory.
What stands there now has been there for about a decade or so, which is a very good run for this location. There's an PetSmart and an HHGregg. I don't remember exactly if anything was there just before they moved in. But that parking lot isn't really the event horizon of the black hole. The storefront across the parking lot is.
The first business to go there was an Office Max. It died a few years later. I'm not sure if it was part of all Office Maxes or if it was really tied to the horrible parking situation. Then there moved in a Circuit City. I'm p sure the parking sitch didn't help with it being a Circuit City and doomed with the rest of the Circuits City. Then there was a Tiger Direct location. That lasted the least amount of time. Now there's some super produce vegetable business that's trying where others have failed.
Delaware itself has some p terrible entrances and egresses for a lot of strip mall businesses. But this one really takes the cake.
Oh, right. I suddenly out of nowhere remembered that the first business to set up shop where the PetSmart is was a Service Merchandise.

Re: Miscellany
No, it was a little fancier. I'd double check but I think some of the fascia is still there. We had a nice little arched entryway, dark red brick with red lighting.

I remember they had catalogues and you would order by phone and pick up at the store.

Re: Miscellany
Here's what it looks like now:
The entrance to the PetSmart is where the entrance for the Service Merchandise used to be.
And this is the formation of the event horizon to the parking hole where stores go to die.

Re: Miscellany
I've seen a lot of places get obnoxiously "MINEMINEMINE!" about walling off their parking but this takes the cake. That is seriously strange. About two thirds of their lot is nearly unusable.
That can't have been what they had in mind, it just can't. I wonder what it was for originally. The left quadrant was a storage area eventually converted to parking, I bet, and whatever shop was there rotated ninety degrees so the front faces right.
Or maybe a separate parking area not meant to join to the main area. That three-lane turn ramp thing suggests sustained heavy traffic, pretty optimistic for an office goods' store. Bus depot?
