I just found out that Robby Steinhardt, violinist/singer for Kansas, died back in July. Those boys cranked out some amazing shit back in the day.

For sure not his best work, but 4 out of 5 hackers agree, still the best hacker movie ever made.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Someone on reddit said they had done the lights for the Jacksonville show the night before (that's where Ponte Verda Beach is), so it looks like he got 2 shows in. The dates line up for that as well (Jax show on the 8th, died on the 9th). I feel morbid speculating about that, but I was curious whether he had performed any of the shows so I dug into it a little.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Yep, his last tweets were about how pumped he was from the show and how excited he was to be back doing stand up.
On one hand it’s sad for him to die excited for the future, on the other, of all the ways people have been dying lately, having your last days feeling alive doing what you loved doesn’t sound too bad.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
I watched Wheel of Fortune with my Mom tonight and it was dedicated to Dick Carson, who died on December 19th, 2021. IMdb says November 19th, but Wikipedia and a number of other sources say December 19th. He was Johnny Carson's brother.
"Dick Carson was born on June 4, 1929 in Clarinda, Iowa, USA as Richard Charles Carson. He was a director, known for Wheel of Fortune (1983), The Merv Griffin Show (1962) and Get Smart (1965)."

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
This is more a "Sometimes People Who Should Have Been Much More Famous Than They Were Die" sort of deal but RIP to another music god of my ill-spent youth, bassist/singer Burke Shelley of the Welsh power trio Budgie. Covered by bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Sound Garden and Alice in Chains, Budgie pumped out 11 studio albums. I lost track of the band after Tony Bourge, their original guitarist, left in 1979 or so, but DAMN could those fuckers play!
Hadn't read or heard anything about Shelley since he and long-time Budgie drummer Steve Williams brought in metal guitarist Craig Goldy for a tour back in 2010. That ended abruptly when Shelley needed emergency surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm.
The bass line, my god, the bass line:
One they always played in concert, including that time I saw them in 1978 at a shithole club in Youngstown, OH:
I'm pretty sure this is the one Megadeth covered:
Yeah, they could do mellow love songs as well:
