On Twitter, Kenneth Casaday, the president of the Austin police officers’ union, retweeted a video clip of Mr. Foster explaining to Mr. Garcia, the independent journalist, why he brought his rifle. In the clip, Mr. Foster is heard using curse words to talk about “all the people that hate us,” but are too afraid to “stop and actually do anything about it.”
In his tweet, Mr. Casaday wrote: “This is the guy that lost his life last night. He was looking for confrontation and he found it.”

Re: Official "FUCK THA POLICE" thread
Yeah, even if you frame it in the ugliest way the facts support it looks like this:
1. Garrett had a chip on his shoulder and an assault rifle (sounds like a lot of MAGAs...)
2. Driver accelerated aggressively into crowd of protestors w/ gun at his fingertips
3. Protestors surrounded car and thumped on it, Garrett aimed his rifle at driver
4. Driver shot Garrett 3 times, started driving away
5. Another bystander took a few shots at the car; no damage reported
6. Driver turns himself in, gets released pending "further investigation"
Based on everything I've seen this seems like the most objective interpretation of events and looks to me a lot more like that driver was looking for an opportunity to kill a protestor "in self defense" and found it.
P.S. I didn't attend the vigil because I'm still avoiding Covid, but I was able to see it from my balcony and I watched live coverage on the news. The intersection where Garrett was killed is 2 blocks from my apartment.

The Douglas County, Nev., public library wanted to take a stand this week: “Everyone is welcome,” read a proposed diversity statement, which added the library “denounces all acts of racism, violence and disregard for human rights. We support #BlackLivesMatter.”
But Douglas County Sheriff Daniel Coverley quickly took a stand of his own.
“Due to your support of Black Lives Matter and the obvious lack of support or trust with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, please do not feel the need to call 911 for help,” Coverley wrote in a letter to the library published Monday. “I wish you good luck with disturbances and lewd behavior.”

Re: Official "FUCK THA POLICE" thread
Quote:
Widespread lying about Fourth Amendment violations is at least as old as the exclusionary rule itself. The Supreme Court applied this rule nationwide in 1961’s Mapp v. Ohio, preventing state prosecutors from relying upon illegally obtained evidence to secure a conviction. Mapp spawned a surge in “dropsy” cases: Rather than admit to an illegal search, police claimed that defendants simply dropped drugs on the ground in front of them, since evidence found in “plain view” can be used at trial. Studies of criminal trials in New York City found that, after Mapp, police began lying about arrests to ensure that evidence would be admissible. In the early 1970s, the New York district attorney even told the New York Court of Appeals that, since Mapp, officers lied on the stand in a “substantial” number of “dropsy cases.” Two decades later, the Mollen Commission—a famous investigation of the NYPD—found that officers routinely engaged in perjury and falsification of records, “the most common form of police corruption.”

The Police Lie All the Time
Quote:
In New York City, prosecutors keep secret databases of unreliable police officers, though only two boroughs actually prohibit those officers from taking the stand. Without further reforms, however, this approach fails to address the underlying problem: Prosecutors are reluctant to accuse officers of lying in the first place, or to investigate an officer’s claims to learn if they align with reality. As a result, an officer who lies convincingly can evade the list indefinitely.
|
Note that they arent punished, just prosecutors try to not use them as witnesses.

Michael Reinoehl: No Warning Before Shooting of Antifa Fugitive? - Rolling Stone
Quote:
Michael Reinoehl, the antifascist activist accused of the killing Aaron “Jay” Danielson in during a right-wing protest in Portland last month, was shot and killed by officers who were dispatched to arrest him near Olympia, Washington on September 3rd. Now an eyewitness is contradicting the federal account of Reinoehl’s final moments, alleging that — far from attempting to “peacefully arrest” Reinoehl — law enforcement opened fire on him without warning, and that Reinoehl himself never brandished a gun.

For the non Georgians about
Clayton county Georgia is Metro Atlanta btw, not even rural Georgia.
not that fuckshit cops and racism should be okay in rural Georgia, but I do expect naked racism to increase as you move away from atlanta.

Re: Official "FUCK THA POLICE" thread
There's a lot of hate and outright racism from long time Clayton residents due to the rapid gentrification of the city of Atlanta and subsequent relocation of its poorest people. People were pretty much forced to relocate as housing projects were destroyed before the '96 Olympics to "clean up the city".

Re: Official "FUCK THA POLICE" thread
LaVeyan satanism was strongly influenced by Ayn Rand so it shouldn’t be too surprising when Satanists sounds like Objectivists.
