Gay marriage, the gateway to polyandry, polygamy and bestiality. A slippery slope indeed!

My boar-loving niece has informed us that he is actually my boar-loving nephew. I'd suggest you could gay marry him, but he likes girls.

Parliament in Germany Approves Same-Sex Marriage - The New York Times
Quote:
Lawmakers in Germany voted on Friday to allow same-sex marriage after a brisk but emotional debate in Parliament, setting the stage for the country to join more than a dozen European nations — including Ireland, France and Spain — in legalizing such unions.
The historic decision came with a swiftness rare in Germany’s usually staid politics, after Chancellor Angela Merkel unexpectedly eased her conservative party’s opposition to gay marriage and said she would allow lawmakers to vote their conscience on the measure, although she ultimately voted against it.

Re: More marriage for teh ghey
Just returned home from attending the wedding of my sister and her long-time girlfriend in Ohio. The participants were resplendent in their fines t-shirts, jeans and pristine, fresh-out-of-the-box tennis shoes, and the officiant - John Berlin, the mayor of Salem, Ohio - was as affable and awesome as could be.
This was my first time meeting my new sister-in-law's family, and they're quite terrific.
Ohio is something of a wingnut shithole, so the elected branches of government may never have done the right thing. That being true, big ups to an old Republican white man named Anthony Kennedy, U.S. Supreme Court associate justice and long-time friend of civil rights for gay folk in the United States,1 for helping make my sister and her one-and-only so happy.
1 Dubebro authored the majority opinions Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003) (invalidating Texas statute criminalizing gay sex) and Romer v. Evans, 517 U.S. 620 (1996) (invalidating state constitutional provision barring state and local governments from conferring "protected status" on homosexuals), and both authored the majority opinions and provided the deciding votes in United States v. Windsor, 570 U.S. 744 (2013) (invalidating provision of DOMA defining marriage to include only opposite-sex unions) and Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. ___ (2015) (invalidating same-sex marriage bans in four states, including Ohio)

Re: More marriage for teh ghey
Taiwan has become the first Asian country to legalize gay marriage: Taiwan legalizes same-sex marriage in historic first for Asia - CNN
Gay couples still don't have all the rights that straight couples do, but this makes it pretty close.
According to polls from the past four years, same sex marriage has majority support in some other Asian countries and territories: Thailand (59%), Israel (58%), Cambodia (55%), Japan (51%) and Hong Kong (50%). However, Cambodia's constitution bans same sex marriage. Trends in Vietnam and South Korea suggest they may have majority support in the near future. If you were going to guess, you'd probably guess that Thailand or Israel would be the second country, but they both have conservative governments. Japan might in the near future (one poll found support as high as 87% among Japanese in their 20s), but they also have a conservative government. South Korea has a center-left government, but lower support.
It might be then that the most likely is Nepal (polling data not available), which had a supreme court ruling that they must change laws to remove discrimination against gay people all the way back in 2007, and to study same-sex partnership law in other countries, etc. But the government there has dragged their feet for quite a long time, obviously, but they haven't explicitly declared that they won't abide by the court's ruling either. Apparently last summer they said they were drafting legislation to legalize it, and then nothing came of it yet again.

Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis wed his longtime partner on Wednesday, marking the first same-sex marriage of a sitting United States governor.
In 2018, Polis became the first openly gay man ever elected governor in the U.S. A decade earlier, he was the first openly gay man elected to the U.S. House.
"Over the course of Jared's career in Congress, you know, we didn't set out to be the first of anything. Things sort of happened that way," said his now-husband, Marlon Reis.
As recently as 2014, same-sex marriage was prohibited in Colorado. The U.S Supreme Court made gay marriage legal across the country in 2015.

I have no idea why I find this as funny as I do: Church of England bishops refuse to back gay marriage
Quote:
Church of England bishops have refused to back a change in teaching to allow priests to marry same-sex couples, sources have told BBC News.
They met on Tuesday to finalise their recommendations after five years of consultation and debate on the Church's position on sexuality.

Five years and this is what they managed to come up with. Also:
Quote:
And the Church will also issue an apology for the way it has excluded LGBT+ people, BBC News was told by several bishops.

Re: More marriage for teh ghey
A justice of the peace in Texas claims that the Supreme Court's recent 303 Creative decision means she's not obliged to perform same-sex marriages. The government can't compel her to engage in speech with which she disagrees, ya see.
And before you ask, NO, taking her filthy mitts out of taxpayers' pockets and getting a jerb in the private sector is not an option! She has an absolute, unqualified right to public employment on her terms.

Re: More marriage for teh ghey
You can be gay and get married in Murfreesboro Tennessee but better not do it in public.
Quote:
Murfreesboro passed an ordinance in June banning “indecent behavior,” including “indecent exposure, public indecency, lewd behavior, nudity or sexual conduct.” As journalist Erin Reed first reported, this ordinance specifically mentions Section 21-72 of the city code. The city code states that sexual conduct includes homosexuality.
