I stayed in the hotel last night, but might go home tonight.

I ended up walking to the 7 Eleven this afternoon. Mostly because someone in the house doesn't know how to ration. We ran short of milk, cream, and coffee the first day. What would typically last us a week was gone in a flash.

In my trek, I took about ten steps from the front porch before I fell and busted my butt. The fall broke my cigarette too, so I walked back to the porch to get another. Ten more steps and I was on my butt again. This shit is treacherous. Two inches of ice like a glass sheet covering everything. I made it to the store, only falling about three more times.

The main road through the neighborhood was treated, because it is a main thoroughfare to the hospital. I could walk on the pavement, but had to move to the sides whenever a car was coming through.

Thankfully, a friend and neighbor saw me on the way to the store. He stopped and asked if he could help. He winged around and met me there in his car and took me back home. I was grateful because the walk there with my empty pack was an adventure. The walk back would have been miserable. My friend Bird is the WORD.

They were down to four of the small bottles of milk, so I just took one. Just in case anyone with a baby needs it. I would hate for someone to go without.

The compote was delicious. I made it with pears, raisins, dates, and dried cranberries. We had it with ice cream and sponge cake I got at the store. Enough is left over for oatmeal in the morning. I think I will make another batch tomorrow.

Spent the afternoon playing board games. We recently got a weird one at one of the museum gift shops called Art Shark. It is really fun for us, but totally weird for other people I am sure. Sadly not coliseum material, which I was hoping. It would be too hard to replicate.

Tonight I am watching Day of the Triffids for the first time. I have had the DVD for ages, lent by a friend, but it is region 2 and I only bothered to configure my laptop to play it tonight. The empty streets I walked through earlier today put me in the mood for some post apocalypse.

Weather wise it is cold as fuck. Clear skies tomorrow might melt some of it away. But not if it stays in the twenties like it is supposed to.

Those cleat things would be perfect. I didn't plan too well on that. My chucks had no traction whatsoever.

That is a good infographic. It explains why when I was looking down and shuffling my feet I was good, but when I looked up I would start slipping. Also, Contra wasn't being a 'fraidy cat not wanting me to go. My tumbles were pretty small, nothing worse than what I did as a kid sledding or skating. My hiney is black and blue, plus I bruised my wrist but thankfully it isn't sprained.

I am going to share that on facebook for all the other Texas kids with no idea how to deal with the white stuff.

My ducks are outside just sitting on their feet. The chickens are huddled in their nests.
I went and bought a water heating unit for their water, all the other birds who can fit through the wire (chickadees) are taking advantage of it as well.

If you don't have cleat and like to play golf, that's what my dad used to use to walk on logs in the water. Bet they'd work on ice.

It's snowing here, enough to be pretty, but not enough to be a problem with travel.

The Christmas tree is up, I put the lights on yesterday and 2 of the the grandkids came over last evening and helped to decorate it, and I grumbled.

Yeah we went from high 70's and humid Friday (it wasn't pleasant at all) to high 40's and humid Saturday, and today is in the 70's and fairly dry. As yukky as Friday was I still prefer it to the 40's. Saturday is about as cold as I can take without wanting to sell everything and move to South America.

Ya'll can keep that ice storm and below zero shit. Gah! How can you stand it?

I've never blown bubbles at -45. But on my first attempt at making a back yard ice rink I used a sprinkler and made a death field of 2-3 foot high ice stalagmites
