Ah...yes...Indian food. We inherited it this region after Intel came to town.

Before that, we only had Plainsfield Mayur...the whitey place with the fanned linen napkins in the wine glasses. Very 'colonial', don't you know?

Then came the real buffet style Indian restaurants with 'all-you-can-eat' for six bucks. Then Indian food became an indulgence for me. The same (or better, in some cases) for a third of the Plainsfield price, and the places were packed with the new immigrants to the region...South Asians.

So I never did finish reading The Fortune Cookie Chronicles referenced early in this ancient thread, but thankfully the author has co-produced a documentary film based on her research for the book. I'm much better at watching movies than reading books.

Sundance Selects has acquired North American rights to Ian Cheney’s Chinese food documentary The Search For General Tso. The film takes us on a trip through restaurants and Chinatowns in the U.S. in an attempt to understand the history and popularity of General Tso’s Chicken dish. Cheney tries to find an answer to who General Tso was and how his name came to grace nearly every American Chinese menu. The Search For General Tso world premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released on January 2 theatrically and on VOD. Cinetic Media negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers. --source

The copy of Chop Suey, USA that I bought for the library because of this thread came in. Won't get around to reading it for a while, though. My to read pile is pretty big.

I thought somebody here might find this interesting. It's an AMA at the reddit, but it's about Finding General Tso. I haven't read any of it and I prolly wouldn't know if it's a good Q&A or not. SO YOU CAN'T JUDGE ME.
