Wash the bugs off what? Do you have a windshield on your bike?

Re: I want a motorcycle
When I was growing up my parents said absolutely no motorcycles, so I never got into the culture, and by the time I was away from them financially, it was just too late to start. If I were to do it, I would prefer a smaller lighter bike, like a Bridgestone 175.

I rode her for the first time a few weeks ago. The suspension needs a bit of work, it sinks like a stone when anyone gets on it. But it's MINE. And it RUNS. Got a stock tank for it, just need the time to go put it on, give the bike a brake job, get that new throttle cable, and we're good to ride!

Re: I want a motorcycle
While driving one of my daughter's home from her dance class this evening, I mentioned to her how much fun it will be when I get my Sportster back on the road this spring and she goes for a ride on it with me -- both of us tearing along in the sun and the wind with the straight pipes going BLRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! at the world.
She totally agreed.

Re: I want a motorcycle
Almost got one motorcycle running? Must be time for a new project bike. I'm gonna be totally overambitious with this next one and build it from the ground up. Well, I'm gonna buy stuff as working parts, but still...meet the 1997 Honda CF125R. The bike I wanted but was too impatient to save up for.

Re: I want a motorcycle
I have been starting the GL650 every couple of weeks and letting it run for a bit to keep the battery up. And to just listen to it.
Some extra-employment opportunity coming my way; totally going to get insurance and cold-weather riding gear when I get paid from that.

My butt is about 2 hours from being firmly in the seat of my DR350. It's gonna be 70 today and I'm gonna go find some dirt.

Re: I want a motorcycle
Awesome curses! And a bit jealous!
I was tempted on Saturday despite all the snow still on the ground; it was in the upper 40s maybe even hit 50. Still, with no insurance I decided against it--I just filled out all the paperwork to get paid for that bonus work I did, and that isn't going to come through for another month at least, so no insurance yet. We might even have our tax refund before that comes in.
Did see one guy out riding on Saturday though, so I my idea wasn't completely insane.

New for 2015: Yamaha SR400. It's so old-school you have to kickstart it.

Re: I want a motorcycle
I will never understand why manufacturers took the kickstarters off in the first place; nice to see they are making a comeback.
Love the retro lines of the SR-400 -- if it came in a 750 I'd so ride the shit out of that.

Re: I want a motorcycle
I have a nice vintage Triumph Bonneville. I would like to clean it, and bring it indoors, and set it up on the ledge over the front door. I'm thinking I need to strap it to bolts in the wall to keep it upright, and figure out a way to get it up to the ledge (it has to move upwards 8 feet.)
My mom thought of a way to get it to the ledge without pulleys. We live in a split level, with the front door between levels. So we will ramp it up the stairs to the top floor, then move the ramp from the top floor to the ledge and get someone to pull it and strap it in.
And then we will have a beautiful vehicle in our house, sort of like people that park their Lamborghini in their living rooms.
And I will have to figure out how to dust it.

Re: I want a motorcycle
I may get one of those Yamahas. I could use it to commute to work. I imagine it gets 75-80 mpg.
Then again, my Honda NT700V gets 55-60 mpg and I don't ride it much, stupid shoulder pain.

Re: I want a motorcycle
I'm also tempted to get one. I posted about the Enfield Bullet upthread which is a similar low-tech single cylinder machine. The Enfield is cheaper but the Yamaha looks better and is likely better engineered.
I don't know about the USA, but the bike has been on sale here in the UK for a while - and the 2015 model in the pic doesn't, superficially, look any different from the 2014 or earlier models.

Re: I want a motorcycle
Was up into the 50s today -- saw a few bikes out. Still no insurance on mine, waiting for the check for that bonus work to come in, so no ride for me. Supposed to snow again on Thursday, so we're not into the riding season quite yet.

Re: I want a motorcycle
Upper 70s here today, lots of bikes out. I wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few that went down, because there is still a lot of sand on the roads that the city, county, state, and turnpike crews put down during the ice and snow.
I can't ride my bike right now because of my shoulder.

Just because:
1980378_10152408868133060_1487264757700739441_o.jpg
It still wants to die out when it idles but the plastic pipe assembly between the carb and top end was cracked so that's getting changed. Also got a new muffler on it and it rides much better when warm.

Re: I want a motorcycle
The one one the left looks ok but is probably ready to be replaced.
The one on the right looks like it has some deposits... hard to tell from the picture but if its dark sooty carbon deposits then that's typically a sign of running rich or poor ignition (keeping all the fuel in the cylinder from burning cleanly).
Check the wires and connections to make sure you're getting good spark to that cylinder.
If its a carburated bike with multiple carbs it could be an issue with the carb on that cylinder.
