This is fascinating stuff. I've just finished reading through Lessans' fantasy of swimming through a river of jizz, and am now captivated by the stunning revelation of how Peacegirl was actually born to Adam and Eve before turning to a torrid life of incestuous passion.

ETA: It's taken a weird but entertaining twist now into medieval fantasy, as Lessans battles Hydras, chopping off heads on his quest to be crowned king of all creation. Can't wait to see how all of this ends.

ETA: The ending confused me a little with all the religious talk and Hitler-worship, but it was certainly a great read. I will look forward to rereading it and then comparing it with Chuck's superior uncorrupted text.

Interestingly, most of the good bits appear to be later additions - of either Lessans or his corrupting daughter. The river of jizz, hydra battles, and Hitler-worship all appear only in the corrupted text - along with all the piss-taking from his imaginary interlocutor, who falls asleep, begs to leave, and generally rips on Lessans for being unclear.

However, the underlying argument and its obvious fallacies remain intact and the same between both versions. The corrupted text though reads like deliberate comedic fiction. Is this Janis corrupting Lessans' serious work, or was Lessans deliberately writing comedy that Janis wrongly took for serious reasoning?

As you all know, I am the True Steward of the Authentic Text. It is in my capacity as the True Steward of the Authentic Text that I today make an important announcement to all who love the Authentic Text as I do, and who commit themselves to interpreting the Authentic Text as written by the Author and published in his lifetime, without blame.

As the True Steward of the Authentic Text, and compelled always of my own free will, I have committed myself to defending the Authentic Text against Corruption and those who would reduce it to some nonsensical book of rules to be hawked for lucre on the Internet. The Authentic Text must prevail, as surely as 2 is to 4 as 3 is to 6.

It is for this reason that I have secured in my possession the Authentic Text as written by the Author and published in 1962, entitled Inception of the Golden Age. But this, friends, is not all.

As the well-informed among you will know, the Copyright Act of 1976 (as amended, notably by the Copyright Amendments Act of 1992) has the effect of requiring copyrights initially secured between January 1, 1950 and December 31, 1963 to be extended by renewal in the 28th year of the initial copyright period. If no renewal was obtained during this period, the copyright expired at the end of the initial 28-year term, and the work ceased to be subject to copyright protection. (Additional information about works generated in this period can be found in the following Copyright Office circulars: Circular 6A, Circular 15A, Circular 15T, and through the Copyright Office.)

The copyright notice of Inception of the Golden Age is dated 1962. Having performed a duly diligent search of the Catalog of Copyright Entries in hard copy, and associated registration and renewal databases online, I have identified the date of the copyright registration as 2 August 1962, reference A574977 (see Catalog of Copyright Entries, s.3, v.16, 1962 Jul-Dec, at 1577).

Some additional new material was registered in 1965 (see see Catalog of Copyright Entries, s.3, v.19, 1965 Jan-Jun, at 540), but this registration was limited to new material which is not included in the 1962 edition, and therefore applies solely to that new materials, and not to the 1962 text.

I have conducted a duly diligent search of the printed materials covering copyright registrations and renewals prior to 1978, as well as the Copyright Database which includes registrations and renewals from 1978 to present. While later, different works were registered for copyright protection, there is no evidence that copyright for the 1962 edition of Inception of the Golden Age was properly renewed in accordance with statutory requirements.

Therefore, I announce that I, ChuckF, True Steward of the Authentic Text, have determined that the Authentic Text Inception of the Golden Age, as written by the Author and published in 1962, has lost its copyright protection due to failure to renew in accordance with statutory requirements.

I further announce my intent to publish and distribute a new edition of this Authentic Text, with critical analysis and annotation. I invite you to assist in the preparation of this exciting manuscript.
