Well, of course I want them to look right when I'm here, but wildly jittering graphics can make me ill, as you know, liv...

Re: Firefox vs. Internet Explorer
Even there IE is no help. It might slow down some fast frames, but the way it messes up the edges of closely cropped smilies is way more seizure-inducing than a fast paced emote, believe you me. They flicker like crazy.

Thank you, liv. Obviously, I have much to learn...
What browser do you recommend to help me minimize such problems?

Re: Firefox vs. Internet Explorer
Opera will slow down the animation dramatically without the flicker bug. I don't think that's ideal, though, because there are most likely plenty of smilies with frame delays shorter than 10/100 of a seconds that you wouldn't find troubling.
I think Firefox with the Adblock extension would be the best solution for you. You could use Adblock to hide any individual smiley that bothers you without messing with the rendering of the ones that don't.
A quick right-click on the image and left-click on "Adblock Image" makes it go away for ever. That would doubtless come in handy for you in many ways on all kinds of websites.

Yes, I want to see all the cool graphics my brain can handle!

Do you think I'll find Firefox very confusing?

That sounds great and really easy...except that I'm left-handed.
On a related subject, liv: are you invisible, or am I just having trouble perceiving you?

I don't think so. It might be a bit confusing in the beginning because it's different from what you're used to, but it's actually pretty intuitive. You download it, double-click on the file, and it installs itself. Then you follow the link to Adblock and click on "Install Now".
Once it's done, you close Firefox and reopen it and you're ready to roll.

He he... Well, if you have your mouse keys set to the reverse from the default, you'll just left-click to get the alternate menu then right-click on "Adblock image". If you haven't made any changes to your mouse buttons, the original instructions apply.
I'm in hidden mode for Secret Santa purposes. After Christmas I'll be visible again.

I once used Netscape, years ago. Do you think Firefox is more confusing than that?
Thank you! Yes, my mouse is set to the reverse. LOL When I used it on the right I got tendonitis in my right wrist.
Oh, thank God! What a relief! I was really, really starting to wonder if my dim index had risen sharply.
If I may ask, what advantages does invisibility confer on a Secret Santa?

I don't know what Netscape was like so I can't say, I'm afraid. I'm sure Firefox is no more complex than the browser you're using now (IE, I guess?).
Ultimately, it's all in how you use it. Firefox can be as bare bones as any browser. Adding layers of complexity is up to the user.

One can search and revisit old threads without being observed in Who's Online. That's handy for Santas who want to read up on their giftee's tastes and interests to pick the perfect present.

Yes, I'm using IE 6. Good to know. Thanks!
How diabolically clever of you, Santa. I'm so impressed!

Re: Firefox vs. Internet Explorer
aww, Liv. It's not going to work out: it makes the screen bright, bright, bright!
"O Blinding Light! O Light That Blinds! I cannot see. Look out for me!"

That's a shame. I don't know why it be any brighter than IE. Firefox and IE look the same on my screen.

It's a mystery, isn't it? It makes no sense to me whatsoever, but I used Netscape to post at Christian Forums (speaking of blinding white) because that browser darkened everything.

Re: Firefox vs. Internet Explorer
There's also an IE 6 theme for firefox that makes it appear much like IE 6 does, this may help you.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, no one with a normal brain can check it for me to see if it's as dark (low contrast) as IE.
Hey. You're from Indianoplace? I lived in Ft. Wayne for about 10 years. I miss Indiana. I miss the folks there.
liv, we need a smiley which looks really, deeply, truly embarrassed...
