Re: I hate Apple
You must have had a bad Philips, Watser?. I never had any probs with mine, and it kept folders in tact.
This iTunes driven iPod thing has just pissed me off even more. I have about 200+ gb of music on my harddrive, and it is sorted into folders. A great example is the Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour shows. First off they don't all fit on this damned thing. Secondly, I managed to find MOST of the TTRH songs on my hdd via iTunes and then gave them 5 stars so I could add music to the iPod via "highest rated". What a lot of useless mucking about, and a complete waste of time. Those that fit (because I dropped the file quality to 128kbs! ) are now scattered and in no meaningful collection, according to the theme etc.
I looked at the non-iTunes alternatives, but they appear to operate in pretty much the same way as iTunes, ignoring folders and making a fucking mess of what I had carefully grouped into folders.
I'm so angry I just want to take a hammer to this stupid little over-priced piece of crap.
Ugh!!! I'm being consumed by frustration and hate! I WANT MY PHILIPS BACK!

Re: I hate Apple
Is it a Muse or an Opus, Watser?
Is it 16gb?
How old is it, and what are you asking for it?
Zoe said she'll teach me about playlists when she gets home from school today, so I'll see how that works out. It sounds like I'll be spending hours recreating folders into "playlists". *sigh*
Still, anger is a powerful energy, so I can see me doing twice as many laps at the Aquatic Centre (and in half the time), after work today. So at least there is something positive in all this Apple sauce.

Re: I hate Apple
It's 16Gb, GoGear Ariaz. I bought it last year, September or something, but I dunno what to ask for it. I was kidding about selling it, it is not too bad. It's been a while since it went all autistic on me. It's just that I like the Sansa better. But if you really want it, why not?

Nice!
But in all honesty, I'm just too broke to buy it. I'm going to have to get used to this Apple/iTunes thing - all I can do is thank God that I don't believe in the Devil, or this iEverything trash would steal my soul and make me all stabby.

Re: I hate Apple
Speaking of hating Apple. I popped a DVD in my Macbook on Saturday and now it's stuck. And I tried everything possible to get it out. If I had to guess I'd say that the DVD drive is broked.

Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility - select drive/disk and eject
If that doesn't work you are well and truly screwed.

Re: I hate Apple
Yeah, tried that. I'll take it back to the store. I'm not too worried as it's still under warranty. Still ... damn annoying.

Re: I hate Apple
Did you try holding the macbook sideways with the cd slot facing down, shaking it and then trying the eject keys with it in that position? That's what they'll try first, if you take it back to the store.

Did you try jamming a butter knife in and levering the tray out with a nasty sounding crack?

No, I'll let the "specialists" break the damn thing for good.
It's not that bad. It has been degraded to a sync station for my iphone anyway.

Underage goat porn DVDs will do that, especially the lower quality ones from small countries like . . .

Re: I hate Apple
These cd/dvd drives have a tny little whole just above the button to push for eject.
Bend a paperclip and push it in there, that is the manual opening thingie. Just push it in gently and it should slowly open (not all the way but it realeases the spring so you should be able to nudge it further).
At least that is how it is on PCs.

Re: I hate Apple
It depends on what you use the Macbook for. You state you use it as an iTune "Sync" which is fine-- --in that case you probably do not want to spend the 45 Quatloos--or do you guys have Euros yet?--to have some acne ravaged cretin do one of these things to it:

Re: I hate Apple
I tried this force-eject stuff but it didn't work. The drive makes some really nasty noises, too.

Re: I hate Apple
Did you try all of the suggestions? Nevertheless, you probably have a drive. My condolences.
Since you do not seem to use your Macbook as your main computer, you can replace it with an external drive for FAR cheaper which will last much longer. The "SuperDrives" are anything but

Re: I hate Apple
I love my iPod, but I was using and liking iTunes even before I got the player, so I didn't have to do much organizing to do when I changed from my old drag and drop player I had had. Now that player was annoying, as I could never get it to work the way I wanted to.
But then I mostly just listen to podcasts these days, and that never worked as well in any other players I have had.

Well, had you bothered to mention that you had it under warranty--requiring you to take it to Germany or France--we would not have bothered to bestow upon you Our Humble--Yet MagNIfIcent--Wisdom [Available on 8-track and cassette.--Ed.]
