Yeah, for me it went like this: "duh, this is a metaphor, cause otherwise it'd be creepy as fuck, who would read that passage and think it wasn't a metaph-" *learns about transubstantiation* "... but... why?!"

Yeah, right? I mean who would fund a movie or comic-book series where the humans eat the zombies, sorry, zombie singular.

Minor correction. According to the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation the transformation from bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ takes place at the moment of consecration, when the priest pronounces the words of institution. Thus it is flesh and blood, and remains flesh and blood, whether or not it ever reaches anyone's mouth.

Re: Philolsophy
Can a priest transubstantiate any substance they like into Jesus?
* erimir gets an idea for a useless superhero, the Transubstantiator, who can turn substances into other substances, undetectably.

Re: Philolsophy
Just bread and wine. Martin Luther wanted to try it with pretzels and beer. Look at how that turned out.

Hey, don't knock Martin Luther, I think Pretzels and Beer would have been a good idea, too bad it didn't catch on, we're stuck with wafers and wine. On special occasions we use an actual loaf of bread, but that can get messy with intinction.

Re: Philolsophy
If communion wafers count as bread, surely pretzels do as well.
I imagine Jesus crumbs would be a concern with certain types of bread though.
Wouldn't want to sweep Jesus into the dustpan.

Re: Philolsophy
Indeed! In the Catholic church, given the special character of the elements of the eucharist, extreme care is taken to make sure that not crumb of bread or a drop of wine is spilled. Preferentially one should only partake of the sacrament on an empty stomach so as not to mix the sacred elements with profane food.

Re: Philolsophy
I dunno, aren't paper towels and church floors just a part of God's creation though?
And honestly, given what's going to happen to that bread and wine eventually, being spilled on the floor ain't all that bad #holyshit #sacredpiss

At the end of service any consecrated sacraments are to be consumed, so if there is any wine left I am required to drink it. Oh, the sacrifices I make for my church.
BTW, any wafers that have accidentally fallen on the floor, are not served but are broken up and thrown onto the grass so that the wild birds can eat them. Both myself and my granddaughter have done that, when needed.

Once we attended a service where they used an uncut loaf of bread, and cut it in half to use for communion. After service I watched the one pastor picking up crumbs that had fallen on the floor and putting them into the hollowed out crust of bread that was left after communion. It disturbed me a bit, but I assumed that he knew what he was doing. I don't know what was done with the left over loaf of bread.

Re: Philolsophy
I have a funeral coming up on Wednesday. Maybe I will give that try.
