Politics involves rhetoric and media attention. Instead of talking about Trump's State of the Union, they're talking about Nancy.

It's not a purely empty gesture anymore than the cable channels running Trump's rally speeches in full was symbolic or "just TV".

There's no need to exaggerate it beyond that, but playing the media game to counter Trump's playing of the media is good.
