AAARRRGG. There is some kind of biting insect in our apartment that is biting ME and only me. I have over a dozen bites that I've gotten since this afternoon.

I'm sitting in my bed and I itch all over and it's making me remember this story about bedbugs that my mom always told whenever we would complain about being itchy while we were in the bed. It was gross then, and it's gross now, and, as always, only makes you feel MORE itchy!!!!

Fuck. I thought my kid's "Awards Ceremony" thingie was tomorrow. I just found out last night that it's today at 10:15. Last night was too damned late to make arrangements to go; I've been out 4 days already and I couldn't just blow off work. And I couldn't drive my own car to work because a) the brakes are making horrid squealy sounds and I'm just biding my time before getting them fixed, and b) I can't park here without arranging it ahead of time with the Company Parking Preventers, which I couldn't do last night. The wife can't go and couldn't even take the time out of work to swing by here and have me take her the rest of the way to work, since she's the only attorney in the office and has to be there the whole day. And I sure can't take the company van, that's an entire extra trip and it'd be verboten as hell.

So we're both going to miss it. It's not a huge thing, but Li'l Puppet gets absolutely distraught about this sort of event, especially since a lot of the other kids' parents will be there. It's basically her "graduation" from 1st grade. While I'm not thrilled by the way they make the end every friggin' school year a "Graduation," I can't do anything about the way it's built up in her little Puppet mind, and she's gonna be heartbroke.

Dammit.

Well, the wife ended up going. So she was 3.5 hours late to work, rather than the 0.5-1 hour late she would've been if she'd gone with my suggestion, but whatevah. But of course, it's still my fault somehow.

Mr. Incredible is right, though. I got a photo of my 4-year-old niece wearing a mortarboard cap and gown with a sash with "2010" on it. I'm like, lolwut? Might as well dress her up like an astronaut and take a photo. I'd be less likely to toss that one in the trash. If I was a parent, I would hate to have to deal with that in my child's school. "You guys don't have one of those stupid 'graduations' in this kindergarten, do you? No, I'm not a stick in the mud, I just think it's one of the world's stupidest things, and it cheapens actual graduations which are a real accomplishment."

Me too! I did this a few weeks ago. Told my sister that I wanted nothing so much as to stuff my face with junk food. Then when I got to the grocery store I bought spring mix, two avocados, walnuts - not even roasted and salted but raw, and low fat raspberry vinaigrette. I worried I had lost my knack for self-indulgence entirely. Of course, the next night I made a homemade pizza and ate the entire thing, so it wasn't gone for good.

Coffee cake was brought in by someone yesterday, all of it eaten yesterday, and the empty except for crumbs left plate left on the breakroom table.

One of the guys got pissed off that it got left out overnight with crumbs on it because, apparently, we have an ant problem in the breakroom, so his solution was to dump the dirty plate and knife in the WOMEN'S ROOM SINK. :brooding:

Unfortunately, the receptionist washed it, so I put the clean plate, rather than a dirty one, in the MEN'S ROOM SINK with this note on it:

Please stop leaving dirty dishes in the women’s room sink. We weren’t hired to wash dishes.

Fucking stale, stagnant, unmoving air.

The air circulating fans in the basement (where I have the pleasure of working) have been off now for more than a week as there is construction going on. The "legacy" computing group needs room to move some of their servers too so the data center is being modified and expanded. In order to prevent dust and contaminants form getting into the other computer systems ALL of the air circulation in the basement has been shut off.

What's this? Doesn't the data center have it's own self contained air circulation system that is separate from the rest of the building? Apparently not (brilliant design that) so all of us who work down stairs have to put up with warm temperatures and no air circulation until the construction is complete.

Why does 30-5 show it to be currently 10402, which is correct, but the previous two hours is 25376, while at the same time the 31-6 shows it is 23783, which is correct, but its previous is 10301? Stupid report reverses them at random intervals.
