Didn't want to mire up the Member News thread with what amounts to a rant.

So today we learned that the entirety of IT infrastructure within the company I work at is certainly to be outsourced. To help quell some rumors that have been running rampant since the announcement everyone just received an email. That email had the following two paragraphs in it:

• Today’s action has no immediate effect on jobs. We are starting the next stage of an evaluation process that will take several months. Once completed, a final decision on the scope of outsourcing will be made. This decision is not expected until the end of November at the earliest. If a decision is made to proceed with an outsourcing plan, transition would extend well into the first half of 2010.

and 2 bullet points later:

• In the event an outsourcing plan proceeds, affected employees would be provided with severance packages as well as “stay pay” for supporting the company with needed services through a transition. Over the next two weeks, employees in the identified departments will receive a letter outlining the details of individual severance pay, an incidental allocation bonus, and stay pay, which you would be eligible for if your position was displaced due to outsourcing. Outplacement services also would be made available to affected employees.

Yeah that really sounds like this is just an evaluation of a possible outsourcing of jobs. :glare:

Speaking of that, I just finished updating my resume. I've finally realized that as much as I like what I'm currently doing, there is no reason for me not to be looking for another job where I will not have furlough days (which effectively amount to a 10% pay cut) and where I will have more than one week of combined sick/vacation leave per year. I may not find anything better, but there's little harm in trying.

Waaaay too stressed out about work today. Why? I swear to invisible deities that every day I come in they add another duty to my already full workday. Everything I have to do has critical deadlines that are usually 24 hours or shorter. This is just getting silly. I'm so stressed I can't even curse!

For the past four days or so, I've only been able to get maybe 2-4 hours of sleep a night, so I'm all dopey and shit, which I suspect is what made me BREAK MY COFFEEMAKER THIS MORNING.

Well, I survived a truck rollover. Proceeding south on a gravel road in my boss' old 3/4 ton chevy, I simply lost control for no apparent reason, fishtailing like mad. I kept it on the road as long as I could but there was very little control, finally spinning a 180 then slewing crabwise into the ditch.

It ended up on its side because of the cargo rack, leaving me dangling and startled but unharmed. I hurt myself worse climbing out of the window than I had from the crash, landing in brambles. I didn't even have to flag down a passing car, everyone stops here; one quick phonecall and friends started pouring in.

Investigation of my tracks revealed the rear passenger tire blew shortly before losing control. And this was a rear drive vehicle. Damn it.
