Goa Gil was one of the pioneers of Goa-Trance in the 80s and 90s, played by electronic artists in Goa, India, it became known as Psytrance as it spread to Israel then the US.
I don't think I'd heard of him but I'd seen his work.

I just found out today that Jim Ayoub, drummer for the Canadian power trio Mahogany Rush, died in December 23 at age 70. I got to see Mahogany Rush play three times back in the day, and they were outstanding live. Guitar god Frank Marino was the focus of the band, but Ayoub and bassist Paul Harwood were top-notch as well.
