It's easier to fight for a sane government and responsible society than to prepare for a dystopian future in which you might die alone and screaming in agony.
That being said, it doesn't hurt to be prepared for a sudden disaster. If you don't have at least 5 guns, and 5000 rounds for each one, and you are not trained and experienced with those weapons, anything else you have is just shit you gathered for the people that do have guns.
If 5 sounds like too much, at least own and know how to use and maintain a Glock 19 pistol, a 22 LR takedown that can go in a small bag, and a 12 gauge Mossberg shotgun.
Defense is only one part of survival in a dystopian future, you also have to know how to kill and prepare animals. This includes the humans that tried to take your stuff.
