What beer or ale goes with bangers & mash?

Really, it depends. Are you talking about plain pork sausages, barely spiced, barely containing any actual pork, and the cheapest potatoes mashed super smooth with barely any salt and pepper? Or are you talking Cumberland sausages with caramelised onion, or Lincolnshire sausages with apple, or chorizo-flavoured sausages, or boerewors, or ...? Maris Piper potatoes mashed with plenty of butter, some cheese, mustard, and parsley? Are you going to be eating at home? in a pub? in a garden? What's the temperature?

The bangers are pork sausages with real pork, parsley and onion, freshly cooked mash potatoes with brown gravy salt, a little garlic and pepper and parsley, peas with cheese, house made mustard. And to answer my question I had cask conditioned ESB.
