Re: What's for Dinner?
Puttanesca has kind of become my sociopath dinner I make when I am too tired to care about anyone but myself. Everyone else seems to object to something about it. Usually the anchovies, sometimes the excess of garlic, the olives, the peppers, the capers or the olives or something.
But every once in a blue moon, I don't care.
Puttanesca for me and the dogs. Freezer pizza for the haters.

I was going to say, good way to weed out unwelcome guests. But I realised you're probably talking about Matlock and TLM and [is unsure if pea has mentioned other family members] and they aren't getting the hint.

Re: What's for Dinner?
We should have a "HEY MATLOCK" thread. He reads but not all the threads, and he almost never checks email. He's gotten better about texts, but not 100% on those either. He doesn't even have his phone on him most of the time.
So sometimes, I can't even get in touch him unless I literally call him on the telephone with my actual face and leave a voicemail.
Currently, though, he's right over there, not five feet from me, but he has his headphones on and is listening to I assume some kind of hair band/cock rock thing, and I don't want to disturb him during this special time.

I’d just spam the thrad with lolyer jokes and stories and asking if Giuliani is a good lolyer.

Yes, that would probably do the job.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Spreading out the isolation diaries to other threads, because everything is an isolation diary in the After Times.
I have CHANGED MY PLANS for the third or fourth time today, and am making mashed potatoes because I noticed a couple had started to go bad, along with a weird bag of ham scraps I found in the freezer. It's like ends and bits and bobs.
I'm also making a salad because we have greens. TLM's girlfriend likes what she calls white girl salad with croutons and shredded cheese, so we're doing that. Everyone seems to like it better than my default of just greens and vinaigrette. (I made croutons out of the butts of stale sourdough loaves, though, so I'm still useful, right?)

Re: What's for Dinner?
Was almost impossible to find pork chops for the evening repast -- everywhere was entirely wiped-out meat cases except Stop & Shop, which was down to it's last four packages.
Yet we prevailed! Pan-seared baked boneless poke chops with pork gyoza.

Re: What's for Dinner?
My son's girlfriend made this sort of hamburger cheese and noodle bake tonight. It was sort of like an actually good version of Hamburger Helper, and it was really good. Plus salad.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Mrs. Puppet did an experiment last night, and made empenadas for the first time (some assist from me on the first bake). The chicken and the potato ones came out perfectly frigging awesome. The strawberry & banana dessert empenadas didn't come out right, due to some fucked up proportions in the sweet dough recipe. Should have just used the same damned dough & sprinkled with powdered sugar.
The good ones stayed awesome today, reheated in the oven (don't let these things even get near the microwave).

Thick sliced pepperoni and sharp provolone. Then gum.
Just me, no kid here tonight so why bother going crazy turning on a oven n'shit. Be doing that all weekend.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Two hamburgers. Had to use up the package of hamburger in the fridge before it went bad. Last thing I need is the hamburger to start swearing, slam-dancing and stage diving, then stabbing the milk and leftover chicken.
Toasted the rolls in buttah in the cast-iron skillet. Tastier and more fattening that way.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Halloumi (yummy, and squeaky) and tofu (has no taste of its own; not squeaky) marinated in soy sauce ginger garlic and honey, grilled, with the marinade reduced to a sort of glaze.
Probably my recommended monthly allowance of salt in that soy sauce.

Re: What's for Dinner?
OMG, I want some of that.
Yesterday was my son's birthday, so I made cabbage and meatball soup (he loves that) with fresh sourdough bread and cultured butter. Fortunately, it was chilly out and raining all day long, so it was a good day for soup. Also fortunately, his girlfriend liked it too. She's a trooper, but she's a little bit picky and weirded out by some of the stuff I make.

again, and for the same reason, except this time it's I swear probably 20 pounds of potatoes. We've been accumulating them throughout the growing season, but were lackadaisical about setting up our over-winter storage, so I am cooking ALL the ones that are even remotely starting to go. (And we finally have the good ones in a laundry basket suspended from a beam with paracord in our large unheated basement.)
I'm going to freeze the leftovers in reasonable sized portions.
It's Tater Day.

Going through and using up what we bought last week so...blackened chicken and brussels sprouts. Mr Curses just mentioned that he likes the way I cook sprouts better than my mom's method. I feel so accomplished :smug:

I've been cooking for other people for too long, and Matlock still doesn't have much of an appetite back, so I made fettuccine puttanesca for the first time since apparently February.
The dogs and I enjoyed it.

I wanted to share these pics of our New Years dinner - Room service on a cheeky 1 night getaway.
The last pic is us social distancing on a King Size Bed

Re: What's for Dinner?
Oh, yeah? Well, I had some leftover noodle stuff earlier but not a lot because: Leftover noodle stuff.
So I got hungry later and had a forkful of sauerkraut out of the jar plus a buttered English muffin I had to share with the dogs.
