Re: Evaporated whiskey
So, yesterday was Medley Bros. a Kentucky bourbon distinctive mostly because it's 102 proof but you don't really notice (until it's too late). Actually, it's quite pleasant.
I need to branch out from bourbons... I think next bottle will be a scotch.
At any rate: all images were taken at approximately 100X.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
What I like about the top and bottom is how it resembles the shallows of the beach with the loamy water.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
Oh, man, I purchased 3 bottles just before the holidays, and apparently, it's taken me 6 months to get through them. I finished off 2 bottles this weekend (each really only had one serving left, so not very impressive), and then I did what I've been doing....

I can only guess.
I think that as the whiskey dries, it forms a translucent glaze at the edge, which cracks as it solidifies. So the yellow lines are cracks in a translucent solid, colored yellow because that's the dominant color.
What I don't know is what the material is that's drying translucent. My best guess are sugars.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
If you had told me that the Watkins Select pictures were satellite photos of outer space, I would have believed you.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
So, the last bottle was Jameson's Irish Whiskey.... It's causing me trouble. There's hardly anything left... like a small, highly translucent brown spot, and that's it.
I need to work on how I'm going to photograph it.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
It probably takes a great amount of willpower not to drink up the samples. But I believe in you, specious.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
I never bothered with the Jameson. I just got... nothing.
I'm probably going to have another burst of activity, as a batch of bottled are emptying.
This slide was actually made a few weeks ago, but got around to photographing it now.
This Sazerac Rye. Yet again, the Ryes gave me something impressive to photograph.
I have 2 sets of 2 pictures, each one is 40X and 100X, respectively.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
I just posted on Facebook that I didn't think I'd find anything new, since I've been doing this for over a year, which is true, but I just realized it would be more accurate to say I've been doing this particular series for over 2 years.
That's 11 sets of pictures and 12 bottles of booze in 2 years. I'm really knocking 'em back!
So, this is Suntory Whisky - Toki.
It was perfectly acceptable, but particularly exciting or different. However, it did yield something new. The first is 40X, and the other two are zoomed in at 100X.
This one reminded me of sand dunes.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
What's odd about this thread is that except for the occasional beer or non-whiskey mixed drink, you all know pretty precisely how much alcohol I've consumed in the last 2 years.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
Another Rye Whisky - I think this is what keeps me going - the images, not just the whiskey.
This time it's James E. Pepper's "1776" Rye. I liked it better than the Sazerac Rye, and less than the Woodinville Whiskey Rye.

Bushmills "Black Bush" - Irish Whiskey. Nice whiskey, OK pictures.
I took a lot more, but these are pretty representative.

Re: Evaporated whiskey
Just so you could keep tabs on my drinking...
John Barr Blended Scotch Whiskey yielded almost nothing of interest. It looked like the slide was speckled with brownish dust under the microscope. Maybe I'll take a picture just to record it.
