The Grant Museum of Zoology at UCL, Gower Street, London, which is "the only remaining university zoological museum in London", has a jar of moles.

18 moles packed into a preserving jar.

It's one of the most popular exhibits, and has its own Twitter account Glass Jar Of Moles (@GlassJarOfMoles) | Twitter:

It's too bad they're not star-nosed moles :duck:

But, seriously, for some reason that is kinda disturbing. I think if they each had their own jar, it would be less so. But even with that, why do you need so many pickled moles?

That's how many you can fit in a standard sized preserving jar. It would be a waste of space to put them in more than one jar, or to leave a jar mostly empty. Clearly it would be wrong to put different species together in the same jar - you wouldn't want, say, a jar of mixed moles and weasles, with perhaps a kingfisher to fill the remaining space.

I'm glad they avoid exaggeration by carefully repeating "99-million-year-old".

The artist's impression makes it look like the bird has enormously long legs ... :)
