Dragon Age Inquisition
So is anyone else even remotely excited about this? I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll be at least as fun as the first one. DA2 was awful and that's the only reason I haven't preordered it yet. Plus Lilianne and Morriagan are back.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
I've never even tried a Dragon Age. I only just recently finally made my way through ME2. I thought I started it once and didn't like it.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
From what I've seen it looks like a fun game, but I think it's a bit too much for my current computer. I'll definitely check it out when hardware allows. I had a blast playing Origins, never bothered with 2 (perhaps if I see it for cheap) but Inquisition looks interesting.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
I got DA2 on sale on Steam for like $5 a few years ago. It just wasn't...I dunno. It lacked anything special.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
Definitely going to get DA Inquisition -- only question is Xbox or PC. Xbox is far away in the basement, won't be as easy a timesuck as having it on my laptop where it is readily available at any and all times.
Origin had DA1 as a free dl few weeks ago - worthy acquisition if you don't have it.
Don't bother with DA2, POS crap, that.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
Gonna go with the 360 version because I'm lazy and the Xbox is my main media center anyways.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
I guess now is the time for a bit of a review. I've put about 40 hours in the game, not sure how long I have to go before endgame. Gonna be as vague as possible to avoid any story spoilers.
I like this installment in the franchise. That's the simple statement. It's not revolutionary but it's worth a few playthroughs after this one, much more than can be said for DA:2.
The pros:
Pretty good storyline. It's engrossing, evolving, and plausible for the DA universe. You do find yourself caring about the characters and the outcome-it's not just about bashing darkspawn.
Character customization. You have 4 races to choose from, they've added Qunari to the list. You have the ability to choose facial structure, character body build, skin tone, hair color, eye color...the stuff we've come to expect from RPGs these days. I didn't get too involved, went with a preset for the first go, I'm a Qunari male for my first playthrough.
Story. Really enjoying the twists and turns. It's not the best game story but it's definitely compelling for me. Easy to get immersed in. Not as integrated with your actions as the first DA but dialogue choices do matter* (more on this in cons.)
Maps. You are able to do missions in both Fereldan AND Orlais. These are first accessed by going to your war room and unlocking missions. The maps themselves aren't as linear as the last two DA installments, they feel much more expansive.
The addition of a war table for mission unlocking. As you progress through the game you gain points, or Power, for tasks completed. Unlocking missions costs certain amounts of Power. You also have 3 commanders that you can use to do other small tasks that are not directly playable, like trade missions and some resource gathering. It adds an interesting layer to the gameplay, makes it feel a bit more like you're directly involved in the storyline (even though everything at the war table is predetermined)
The artwork. It feels like they've spent a good amount of time with the creation of both the lands and the characters in the game. I've seen the videos of them running on good PCs and the game is beautiful. I'm running it on an Xbox 360 so the characters themselves look a bit shit. Not a surprise, I knew to expect it.
I've worked all day today and typing from this laptop sucks, I'll do cons later today or tomorrow. I'm gonna go boot up the 'Box and play some more.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
SF Debris recently did a walk-through/examination of Dragon Age Origins. I thought it was interesting and funny even if I've never played it. It's also sort of a companion to his series on Knights of the Old Republic (the first). And somewhere deep in his playlist he covered Mass Effect.
Caution: First link is to his blip page. The other two start at the first video of its respective series and auto-play through all content.

Re: Dragon Age Inquisition
<3 bort. OK so most annoying thing about the game is I am now getting bored of it...after almost 60 days of playing it nonstop. It's not perfect, like using horses ingame really affects the immersion as only the selected party member will have one and all banter will cease, but it's fun if you're interested in the story. And how you can change it with each decision.
