Water in or water out? For water out, heat some water on the stove and pour it in. Hopefully, it clears the drain. I had to do this with a shower drain once before I insulated the garage.
It's cold enough to turn on my electric heater in the garage. It's 40F out in the garage with the heater. Our bedroom is partially above the garage so that warms us up too.
Snow again tonight and tomorrow morning. Probably not much, but here you never know til it's over. No Indian food, but a group of people coming to watch the Olympic opening ceremony/Drink.

I see no evidence of plows, but I haven't been to the end of our street since there was barely an inch. I hope it clears out before Monday.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
We were supposed to get snow all weekend, a renewed winter wonderland-style dumping, and I dared to think I might actually get to go sledding or something again. Then it warmed up just enough to rain instead. Now it's just fucking slushy and shit.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
The sewage line was fine, so thankfully we could manually flush with a bucket. It was still a panicky moment.
We had forgotten to let the bath tub faucet drip, with usually keeps the line from freezing on that side of the house. For an extra measure of security, I clipped a shop light down under the crawlspace to keep things cozy and the line was clear in a couple hours.
We installed coil wire heaters on the pipes on the north side of the house a few years ago, which services the kitchen and laundry. This was the first time the bathroom side of the house ever froze.
Tonight it is ...
41°?!
IT'S FUCKING ...ALRIGHT
Compared to how awful it's been this is great!

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
Freezing rain overnight on top of about five inches of powdery snow. We now has crunchy snow and the streets are skating rinks. The excitement begins when the temps rise above freezing and all of it starts slipping. Thankfully, it will be very transient.
My employer issued an 'inclement weather' notice, closing the campus through the weekend, with reassessment Sunday evening. I'm off work! (Sunday is usually a regular workday for me.)

Do you normally get a lot of snow by your neck of the woods? Where I live, 40" have already fallen. Normally we average around the mid 20's for the entire winter.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
No. Snow in the immediate area is a rarity. This is why it is such a big deal when it does happen. It's not Atlanta or Orange County, but it usually snows about once a year, under one inch of accumulation, and melts away within 24 hours, if not faster.
Thus, those who "absolutely must" be somewhere else in the region persist in driving in conditions which are not conducive to their driving. The result is usually multiple traffic mishaps of major proportions and fodder for harrowing tales of survival in the coming year.
In my estimation, the best thing to do is just sit tight. If you need to move around, go for a walk. It will all blow over in a couple of days. If you came here from Minnesota, Ontario, or Maine, the snow ain't the same and, besides, the roads are filled with hoards of former Californians (and natives) who 'know how to drive in the snow' because they go skiing twice a year. Adepts, y'know....you can tell their rigs; they're usually the ones upside down in the median strip.
Right now, I think we are close to classic 'silver thaw' conditions. Five inches of snow, topped with a crust of ice, and temps rose above freezing yesterday and then dropped below freezing for overnight. We have ice. Big sheets of refrozen partially-melted snow. This will greet the Monday morning commute. Yeeeee-haw!
Me? I'm staying home. Just getting to the sidewalk is treacherous.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
It's been really foggy here for the last couple of days.
It's really cool because we almost never get fog, but I'm not used to it and don't know what to expect. Do you usually get a lot of werewolves and stuff when it's like this? How nervous should I be?
We also have a bunch of patchy ice camouflaged by a light sprinkling of recent snow, which has some good comedy potential.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
I wish it would get warm enough to snow here. -7 F this morning with wind chills -20 F and below. Again. How do you people up north stand it. I like temps on the cool side, but damn.
I'm getting tired of my nose hairs freezing. Looks like a warm-up with 2 chances of freezing rain/snow this week. I'll take it.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
at yoga this morning, there was gleeful, anticipatory chatter that our area is about to establish a record in terms of “days in a row with temperatures below zero”
it is just after 7 pm, and it is -2
when it is time to do the barn/coop chores,12 hours from now, it is forecast to be -9 and to cop a quip from vremya "who the fuck knows what the wind chill will be?" (it was -17 this morning) , so 24 days in a row with subzero temps will be in the record books….
take it from someone who actually works outside and in unheated outbuildings… this winter has been a total bitch…
i am much more interested in, and delighted by, the fact that starting wednesday… an ENTIRE WEEK OF HIGH TEMPS IN THE TEENS AND 20s

Lots of excitement, no bread or milk. The place I work is right by a Publix, they were out of bread by noon.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
A lot of people here think this is a bad winter. A local weathercaster who has been around for a while said it's not nearly as bad as winters in the late 1970s. The winter of 1979-1980 is the coldest on record for Tulsa. This year the weather has been on a roller-coaster ride, a few days with frigid cold then a day or so near normal, though none above for a while, but still a weather pattern that has probably kept it from being as bad on average. The record for the most consecutive days below freezing here in NE Oklahoma was set in the winter of 2000-2001, 35 days. This winter hasn't been that bad in comparison, and the last two years there was hardly any winter at all.
When I first went to work in Wyoming, I was hired at the same time as two guys from the Houston area. As soon as it got sub-zero weather, the two Houstonians flew the coop, went back to the subtropics. My coworkers wondered why I had stayed, considering that was from that same area. Just a few years before I worked outdoors loading anhydrous ammonia tank cars and trucks in NW Oklahoma during the record cold winter of 1979-1980. It was a bitch, but I survived it. I think the average wind chill for a six week period that winter was in the -20ºF range, with days with a wind chill down around -70ºF, worse than I ever experienced in Wyoming. However, Wyoming is cold for longer and is quite cold normally in winter. I saw -48ºF on a thermometer there one cold morning, but not until I scraped about an inch of hoarfrost off of it. There was no wind at that time, so no wind chill adjustment. Piece of cake.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
And it's snowing again. School is closed today and, according to a trusted source, will be closed again tomorrow.
On the one hand, I am so over the snow. On the other hand, I appreciate the time off to spend with my loved ones and get shit done at home.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
I concur with Dingfod...The late 70s were the bomb for crappy winter weather in these parts. Lots of heavy-duty ice storms. We had some humdingers in the mid- to late-60s, too.
Still, the single largest snowfall in these parts in my lifetime was just four years back. And, the snowstorm we just had was notorious for extending accumulation over three, almost four, days. I don't remember that happening, ever, since I've lived in Puddle City. The net result has not been nearly as destructive as the big-time ice storms.

I think we are quietly setting a record for warmest winter in umpty years or something. Today was about 8 C, a cold summer night. I think we might even hit double digits this week.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
It's supposed to get up to 60ºF (+15.6ºC) here by this weekend, quite a change from snowy and 16ºF (-8.9ºC) this morning.
