The kids thought they would get another "snow day" for the cold today.
But the school district wised up and made them go today since it was not snowing and they had already heated the building.

A bunch of schools are closed here because of the cold. It was -16 F when I got up and it's -4 F now. Feels the same to me. 
The kittehs are hanging out on the radiator, which is pumping out heat but barely making a dent in the cold.

Mother Nature's just fucking with us now. It was -18 yesterday. Today it was 30 (heat wave!) and it snowed again.
Tomorrow is supposed to have a high of 4, then it's going to bounce up to 16 on Sunday (when we go check out the Saintly City Cat Show  ).
And Monday it goes back to -13.

The high today was 64ºF, up 60ºF from yesterday morning's low. It is supposed to be 64 tomorrow too, then "back in the cooler, Hogan."

The high temperature today was 60ºF higher than yesterday morning's low of 4ºF. 64ºF is also expected to be the high tomorrow, though some forecasters say we could hit 70. Then we're back in the deep freeze Monday and for much of the week.

since dec 1, we have had 27 days of high temps below zero…
this morning when i went out to do barn chores it was -19 with a windchill of -44… it hurt to breathe!
we had to make a poop path for the dogs because they cannot stay out as long as i need to stay in order to get the chores done…
the second picture is a snow/ice clump that formed under the hoof of one of the horses…. these clumps are all over the barn and the paddock… it makes walking so difficult for them

On the plus side, this morning you could see tiny ice crystals reflecting the sunlight if you were facing the right way. We got 2" of snow here. We're not set up to deal with it. People have been stranded all over metro ATL. I've never seen it like this before. To give you an idea, here's a link to a FB page someone set up to help stranded motorists find shelter.

Yeah I've got a Georgia Tech pal spending the night in his lab and there's a facebook group trying to connect stranded people to places offering shelter.
I felt like such a lazy shithead this morning when I called in on the mere possibility of snow. You would not believe how hard I'm patting myself on the back now.
Plus no school tomorrow.

WSB have said there are STILL kids on school buses in Fulton. National Guard has mobilized, don't know how they'll get to the stranded drivers.
