Federal judge tosses Trump's second attempt to block New York prosecutors from obtaining his tax returns

The ruling by Marrero is the latest setback for the president in his attempt to keep his business records out of Vance's hands. Vance first issued his subpoena to Mazars USA, the president's longtime accounting firm, last year, but Mr. Trump challenged the request in federal court, arguing he was entitled to "absolute immunity" from state criminal proceedings while in office.

The federal district court and the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the president, leading to his appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. In May, the high court ruled 7-2 that Vance could access Mr. Trump's financial records but sent the case back to the lower courts for further proceedings. The Supreme Court rejected Mr. Trump's assertion of absolute immunity from state criminal subpoenas but allowed the president to challenge the validity of the subpoena on other grounds.

Trump loses bid to delay handover of tax returns to NY prosecutor

A federal judge on Friday denied Donald Trump's request to delay allowing the Manhattan district attorney to obtain his tax returns while the U.S. president appeals.


U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero, who on Thursday rejected Trump's arguments that the grand jury subpoena from district attorney Cyrus Vance was "wildly overbroad," said Trump failed to justify a stay.

The Manhattan judge said Trump failed to show his appeal would likely succeed, or that he would be irreparably harmed without a stay but Trump's tax returns are unlikely to become public before the Nov. 3 presidential election.

Four years after Dump said he'd hand over the tax info, it finally gets pried loose with a crowbar and a back hoe.
