I would dearly love to see Steve Winwood live before one of us drops dead. Well do I remember being flabbergasted at finding out that the dude belting out those kick-ass vocals on Spencer Davis Group songs was a skinny white teenager. Been a fan ever since.

We're into our run of live music, and it's been great. Sunday 8/1, Lisa and I went to see the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at a small but really nice amphitheater near home. They played three Mozart pieces, and a grand time was had by one and all.
On Monday 8/2, my concert buddy from work and I saw King Crimson (with the California Guitar Trio opening) at Fiddler's Green, another outdoor venue. Bassist Tony Levin posts photos from all the King Crimson shows, and the pics from Monday (including one of the setlist) are available here. These guys just keep getting better. I'll never tire of drum solos from the incomparable Gavin Harrison on 21st Century Schizoid Man, but this time around it was the 3-4 minutes before the drum solo - during which Levin and another drummer, Jeremy Stacey, backed up an absolutely SAVAGE sax solo from 73-year-old Mel Collins - that took my breath away.
On Friday 8/13, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra will be backing up Wu Tang Clan at yet another outdoor venue, Red Rocks Amphitheater. Big Boi is performing as well, and Lisa is the world's foremost Big Boi fan.

Just saw the Crimson show with Mrs. Puppet last night. They had 2 opening acts, both the CGT and The Zappa Band. CGT must have started early, because we were on time but they were finishing up their last number when we got to our seats. Dammit. But The Zappa Band was blisteringly awesome, and King Crimson knocked it out of the park, albeit with a somewhat shorter set than back in 2017, possibly because of the opening acts.
Mrs. Puppet liked it even more than I expected, due mostly to the drums. And Mel Collins' sax solo was similarly breathtaking.
Now if Big Big Train would just get their asses over to this side of the pond ...

Looks like they played Islands at your show as well. That was some breathtaking stuff too. Stacey may be a better pianist than he is a drummer, and that's saying something.
10-4 on BBT, although getting those fuckers to cross the pond has proven the ultimate impossible dream.
