Re: Software Feature Requests
I think it'd work just as well or better if "Gender" or "Sex" or something were an extra field in users' profiles. I mean, I'm male, but that doesn't mean I need to remind everyone else of that fact every time I post, and I don't think it's important enough to warrant adding an extra line's worth to the minimum vertical size of a post (I have user information displayed as the sidebar). As it is, each post takes up a minimum of 270 pixels vertically on my screen, even if the only content of that post is a single smilie. I'd vote for reducing this amount, not increasing it.

I don't mind if a text indicator is hidable or not. Ari and Kirron have different valid points, though.
You can please one person at a time, for a while, but you can't please many people for long.

I can't remember if I already asked for it, but I'd like to be able to ignore a thread without clicking on it first. Put an "X" somewhere on the index page. Thanks.

Re: Software Feature Requests
Also, can I say something I like? I like how when you choose "mark this forum read" from the "forum tools" menu, the page refreshes in the forum index, rathern than in the forum I just marked read. That is super cool, and it is something I hope gets retained in the upgrade.

Just so's everyone knows (and you too, JD) I'm not ignoring the requests in this thread, I'm just planning on revisiting it to consider them after the forum upgrade. Keep 'em coming.

I just though of something. I noticed that when visiting the portal, the board's statistics are in Arabic numerals as well as on the forum index, members list and profile pages. Shouldn't they be in Roman numeral format as well?

Re: Software Feature Requests
Since I am in the process of making requests, I'd like to ask another one. If it is possible, I would like to see a hack that allows double-spacing in posts. I find it annoying that I cannot do so.

If you're in the HTML group you can do it like this.
Or like this which is simpler, though it uses a different font.
Code:
Or you could always use the code tag.

Re: Software Feature Requests
I'm not sure if I'd ever use this, or if anyone would. I don't even really care if it never comes to exist. But I realized it might be convenient to have a link to a poster's photo gallery somewhere, such as the drop-down menu that appears when clicking their name. Only bother if you think it'd be a good idea.

It's a great idea, and also it sounds like it'd be really easy to do.

Re: Software Feature Requests
Is there a way to create a vB code that replicates the HTML double-space command?

If the admins trust someone to use it properly, they put them in a group that allows them to embed HTML in their posts, like this:

Re: Software Feature Requests
There is an HTML code that allows double-spacing. I am wondering if the nice admins can create a vB code that repicates the HTML code that allows double-spacing.

Re: Software Feature Requests
I don't think there is an HTML double space command, other than the explicit ones I used above. The HTML standard defined all white space to be equal, and expected users to put explicit formatting tags into their HTML if they wanted double spaces or similar.
I suppose we could have a hack that changed any double spaces to:
followed by a regular space. That is, for any occurences of double spaces, the first space would be replaced by a non-breaking one.

Re: Software Feature Requests
Clarify still more, mc2K2*: do you mean double-width spaces between words (cep's and my assumption so far)? Or double-spacing meaning blank lines between every line of text (the usual print/typing sense)?
* Yes, I'm messing with your username. I'll get tired of it soon.

Re: Software Feature Requests
As far as I know, ceptimus has given all the reasonable possibilities.
How often would you want to do this? And would you want it inline like this, or in a separate block? What's it good for, in other words?

Re: Software Feature Requests
Some people like to use a double space between sentences. I suggest that MonCapitan2002 ask to be added to the HTML user group and then use the non-breaking space command where desired.

Re: Software Feature Requests
I think that's the ideal solution as well. MonCapitan, you are now enabled to use HTML on this forum. (Actually, it was kinda like that when I got there, which leads me to believe vm hooked you up already.)

Re: Software Feature Requests and Bug Reports
Feature request. On the member list, users who have chosen to hide their online status have their join date shown as their last visit date. We discussed this somewhere before. The last visit date should at least be their last post date; if that can't be done, it should be blank or '(hidden)'.

Re: Software Feature Requests and Bug Reports
Spoiler text.
1. I noticed the justification for axing the [SPOILER=hooha] style of spoiler code was because of a security issue. But this is no more of a threat than allowing certain users to write HTML on the board. Basically, couldn't you allow only the HTML group to use 'enhanced spoiler' bbcode? Perhaps you'd have to rename the command to [hidden] or something, to avoid confusion with regular spoilers.
2. It'd be lovely if it were possible to rehide spoiler text I, upon glancing, do not want to read, without exiting the thread. Sometimes it is unclear what the spoiler is a spoiler of, and I find out just enough before realizing I wanted the text to remain hidden. Of course, this might not be technically possible, or else you probably would have put it in to begin with.

Re: Software Feature Requests and Bug Reports
1. I was wondering if anyone would ever notice that. The reason I didn't do it is because if everyone who wanted to use the spoiler tag asked to be in the exclusive HTML group, the purpose of the group (severely limiting the number of users who have access to HTML, and hence correspondingly reducing risk) would be undermined. Hopefully there will be a better spoiler solution post-upgrade.
2. I don't know how it'd be done easily, but meanwhile you can reload the page.
