FF 2.0 will obviate any need to subscribe to threads. In fact, all such features will be removed. FF 2.0 will show you precisely the threads it knows* are important to you, and no others.

At times and frequencies selected by an intelligent learning algorithm, 2.0 will deliver all relevant content directly to your cerebral cortex by means of a global network of broadcasting rigid airships, which also monitors your thoughts and [thanks] in real time. This is called the cloud.

As a user that is constantly on the go between places, and having only had internet access through my cell phone for several months; I did not find tapatalk to be up to par with the full forum experience; making my participation null and void over this year. The forum itself is great, if you have the time or access to a PC to sit and read threads. The Tapatalk application is great to navigate as opposed to a typical cellphone browser, but it is no match for as the domestic chore of thanking and replying that it is meant to be, So a more fluid mobile version would be nice.

Not only because I have a desperate need for validation, but because it's the easiest way for me to navigate back to the discussions I've joined.

I'm not the only one that accesses through the thanks page? I almost feel less pathetic now. I have always checked thanks to see where my interaction left off. Mostly because I always needed desperate validation. Is that what keeps people here? Probably not. You can get validation anywhere. I come to because there is a very specific user base that I like to interact with and interesting discussions. I like your idea of a self-organizing forum by way of subject matter. Perhaps if we organized threads by interests people could follow interests that pertain to them (say, #science, #history, #literature, etc.). Maybe a fixed library set by you and liv as a replacement to sub-forums; then there could be a "stream" of threads/replies pertaining to personal interests placed in the portal or something. I don't know about programming forums, though.

I do love the format here and I am heartened that Mr. Mammaries is interested in keeping the overall look. I know that there's another, lesser forum out there that uses a more out-of-the box (i.e., uglier) version of vB and has basic tag functionality -- any member can just add any tag they want, whether existing or brand new. I don't know how useful it would be here, considering that there aren't thousands of new posts per day. But if it were implemented, I would use it, at least to add lots of unnecessary, snarky tags to everything.
|
I also feel like the look should be kept or else we'll all feel robbed of our experience.
Having a lot of free time helps a lot here, and I think that's part of the problem causing low forum traffic. Users can't jump in and participate without sifting through a bunch of subjective content first; or if they do, they do so blindly before the girly gang and then they get eaten alive. Think of the n00bs.
