I've mentioned before that the "motto" in the header (think what you like, and say what you think ...) was an afterthought, tacked on in the last hours of setting up this forum before we opened the metaphorical doors to members.
I've also mentioned before that we've regretted it ever since; not because the
isn't a forum where one may think what they like and say what they think, but because -- despite the occasional presumptions to the contrary -- it's not wholly representative of the core values we had in mind when we started this forum. Moreover, some people seem to interpret it as "think what you like, and say what you think - with no consequences!" then proceed to get all bent out of shape when what they say is challenged or criticized by others.
In fact we pretty much decided to remove that catchphrase months ago, but figured we'd package the change with some other cosmetic changes on our wishlist. (Specifically, making the whole header about half the current height so people on lower resolutions don't have to scroll down the page just to see the first forums.)
Anyway, on my way home from work yesterday I was listening to "All Things Considered" on NPR, and I thought hey, that's actually a more accurate summation of our intent than "think what you like, and say what you think". Maybe instead of removing the catchphrase, we should change it. Not to "All Things Considered" - I think mimicry is lame. But to something similar maybe.
What do you think? Keep it, remove it, change it? In the end we might not go with the majority opinion, but we'd like to hear from anyone who has an opinion on the subject anyway.
